Streamtail yawned as she stretched. Today was the first day of leaf-fall. Treepaw needs training,  but she has to organize the patrols first. After all she is the deputy. Streamtail padded out of the warrior's den and saw that the sun hadn't risen yet. She sat just outside the den on a patch of grass and curled up. The moon-high patrol pushed through the reeds at the entrance. I padded over and talked to Hedgefur who was in charge of the patrol.

"Did you find any trespassers or hunt any prey?" Streamtail asked.

"They're weren't any trespassers and we caught some mice." Hedgefur meowed in reply.

"It's good to hear that. Now go rest," Streamtail purred. They passed her into the warrior's den. She curled up again, but didn't sleep. The morning patrol headed out as the first streaks of dawn peeped over a few trees. Streamtail trotted over to Treepaw who was just emerging.

"I hope you have enough energy for a little battle training," Streamtail mewed with amusement.

"Of course I am, Streamtail," Treepaw hissed defensively. She padded towards a group of warriors who were sharing tongues.

"Dustfur, Leafstorm, and Clearnose! Nightfury you'll lead this sun-high patrol," Streamtail ordered. She beckoned Treepaw with her tail and we padded out of camp. She raced through the forest with Treepaw on her heels to the grassy clearing. They skidded to a halt and took their positions in the center of the clearing.

"Okay, I'm going to try to lay a hit on you. I want you to dodge and land a hit on me. Got it," Streamtail meowed. Treepaw did as she said and they circled each other. Streamtail waited for the opportunity to strike and pounced. Treepaw tried to duck, but before Streamtail could touch the ground she slithered under Treepaw and kicked him with her hind legs. Treepaw was sent flying and landed on his paws. Without waiting for any instruction, Treepaw charged at her, but Streamtail dodged and tripped him as he passed. He tumbled head first.

"Uhh," Treepaw groaned as he struggled to his paws.

"I think that'll be all for today, Treepaw," Streamtail started to pad out of the clearing when something slid under her and tripped her. She hit the ground with a thud.

"Good job Treepaw. Always take your enemies by surprise," Streamtail purred as she stood.

"Yes, that's exactly what I did," Hissed an unfamiliar voice. Streamtail whipped around to see Pineclaw with Treepaw pinned in the grass. She growled at the Shadeclan deputy. As she did the forest darkened as more cats emerged. The sun-high patrol would be on their way back to camp by now, but she couldn't yowl or run for help. Not while her apprentice was in danger.

"What do you want Pineclaw," Streamtail hissed with a bitter tinge to it.

"We obviously want your territory, Streamtail," He growled with the same amount of bitterness.

"Well you'll have to through me first," Streamtail meowed as she flexed her claws. Pineclaw flicked the tip of his tail and three Shadeclan warriors prowled towards Streamtail. One pounced at her, but she dodged and raked his flank. The other two worked as a team, nipping at her legs and throwing paw swings. She couldn't wait and jumped on one's back. She clung to the big tom with all her might. Then she recognized him, This is Marshfoot, she thought to herself. She dug her claws into his pelt and bit his shoulder. Marshfoot yowled in pain and the other cat jumped at Streamtail, knocking her off Marshfoot. They were sent tumbling through the clearing. He had her pinned, but Streamtail slithered out and bit his paw. He growled and chased her right into Marshfoot. They both pinned her down and she struggled. They clawed and bit her legs, ears, and sides. She let out a blood curdling screech of pain. Blood dripped down her face and her vision was blurry. She stole a glance at Treepaw, he was alright, but he watched in terror as his mentor and deputy was being torn to shreds. This gave her a burst of strength, as if Starclan gave all they power to her. Streamtail knocked them off and have them both bloody claw marks on their soft belly fur. They yowled and ran back behind Pineclaw.

"Cowards," Pineclaw hissed,"I'll finish her myself." Pineclaw crept towards her. A flash of orangey-brown crashed onto Pineclaw.

"I'm afraid you won't be doing anything but going home," Foxstar hissed.

"Oh really, you and what army," Pineclaw growled. As he said it all of Streamtail's fellow warriors and their apprentices appeared out of the trees. Foxstar brought everyone to come fight! She thought. She suddenly remembered her apprentice Treepaw and looked around, anxiously hoping to see his tortoise-shell pelt. She let out a sigh of relief when she made eye contact with him. He was standing among the ranks of Streamclan's apprentices.

"This one," Foxstar meowed triumphantly. Shadeclan sprinted back in the direction of the border with Pineclaw leading them.

"You always seem to come and save me from danger," Streamtail purred and licked Foxstar's cheek.

"Whenever I can," Foxstar mewed back. He twitched his tail and stood in front of the warriors.

"Let's head back to camp. I'm afraid there wasn't a battle today." Foxstar ordered. They started to walk back to camp when Streamtail got dizzy and her vision blurred. She fell with a thud on the edge of the grassy clearing.

"Streamtail!"

Her eyes closed as she saw her clan mates with worried expressions stood over her as she drifted into darkness.
