Graham was exactly right. Two days later, in the middle of our afternoon travel we found a village, full of people wandering around, much busier than the northern village I visit. It was strange, it seemed everyone was out of there homes and instead running around outside, buying things.
"Looks busy," I told Graham as we stepped onto the street.
"It's a heavily populated village. Lots more people live here than the normal village."
"Oh," I responded and I watched them walk by us as we went farther into the village. Graham stopped at one small store and walked in, I followed him and inside, they were so many shelves with all different cloths on them. Near the back of the store a man sat cutting the fabric. A different corner of the store had a table with already made outfits laying neatly.
"Can I help you?" The tailor asked noticing us come in. He was kind of old, with gray hair and a white beard.
"Do you have traveling cloths for women?" Graham questioned back and the old man got up, he looked at me for a moment, before walking to the table. He picked up some cloths and put them to the side, before picking up a shirt and pants underneath.
"I have these," he said extending his arm to us. Graham took the shirt first, looking at it and then looked at the pants. He looked back at me and nodded. I felt so weird, standing in this shop while Graham looked at cloths.
"Like them?" Graham asked showing me the cloths. I looked closer at them, the shirt was white with a brown fur vest over it. The pants were also brown, a little darker than the vest.
I rubbed the vest in between my fingers, "Bear fur?" I questioned Graham.
"Of course, I can easily tell the difference."
I knew he meant that fur was not wolves fur. "Then, the cloths are very nice," I honestly told him with a smile. He smiled back.
"There yours then," He handed me the cloths and I took them shocked.
"Your buying me new cloths?"
"Looks like than doesn't it," he said with a laugh.
"There's a room in the back if you'd like to change," the old man interrupted us and I looked to Graham to make sure that was alright, he motioned with his head toward the back.
I walked towards the old man and he showed me a door that led into a smaller room. "Thank you," I told him and he nodded.
Inside the room I made sure the door was closed securely before taking off my knee high boots. Then I stripped off my shirt, pants and then placed on the new pants first. The fabric was so different, ordinary fabric instead of royal fabric, the pants clutching to my skin. I loved the feel of it, I carelessly threw my old cloths to the ground. I picked up the short-sleeved shirt and found that the vest was separate.
Of course it is stupid, I told myself mentally. I finished getting dressed and looked at myself in the tall mirror inside the room. I looked like any ordinary traveler, even my brown hair wasn't artificially curled anymore. It fell on my back in small waves.
I stepped out of the room with my old cloths and found Graham and the old man in conversation. I walked over to him and he stopped talking as soon as he saw me. He looked me up and down, my face grew hot.
"You look really good in traveling cloths," He said and I smiled at him.
"Thank you," I said and he looked at the cloths I was holding.
"You still want those?"
"No, not really. This new fabric is so much more comfortable."
He chuckled and took the cloths from me, handing them to the old man, "Want this old fabric?"
"Yes, it is very expensive fabric," the old man said taking the cloths.
"Let's go," Graham said and I followed him outside of the little store.
"These cloths are amazing," I said as we continued walking down the street.
"No one will see you as a former princess in those cloths, you almost look like you were born in the woods."
"Like you?" I said laughing.
"Very funny, Rose."
"I know, I'm amusing. So, what do we do now?"
"I need to get some new supplies for the last stretch of our journey. Then I plan to go get a beer at the tavern, it's something I do whenever I run into a village," he said and I nodded. "Do you want to take him and wander around here?"
I looked down at the wolf, I had completely forgotten that he was here with us. He looked at ease walking around a village, but some people gave him cautious glances. "Sure, I'd love to see what's in this big village. Want to go for a walk, boy?"
He nudged my leg, panting which I took as a yes.
"Alright, I'll see you in a bit," Graham said and I gave him a smile before walking off with the wolf by my side.
I looked around the village, seeing all the streets the many buildings made. I stopped and knelled down, to scratch the wolf's ear. "Any idea where to go to first, boy?"
He looked me in the eyes, before turning his head and used his nose to point to a street full of shops. I got up and he began walking towards it. "Good boy."
