It's snowing like crazy tonight. Sidney doesn't live too far away, but the weather is so bad that I am sort of scared to drive. In all my doubting of Sidney's goodness, not until tonight did I start thinking that going on this date is a bad idea. And only because of the weather. As I'm picking out what to wear, I get a text from him, "You still have my address?"
That's cute, I'm pretty sure it's his way of making sure I won't skip out on him. "Yeah, you don't live too far away," I reply.
He replies, "Okay, see you soon."
I go through my clothes until I find something that screams out casual date night and put it on. The good thing is, Sidney is dress almost the same way. "Hey," he opens the door to his gianormous house, smiling and showing me in.
"Hey! It smells so good, did you cook?" obviously he did, I can't believe it.
"Yeah, but I have to admit I'm not the best. The bread got burned, hopefully you can't smell that."
I actually could, but it didn't bother me. "I can't believe you cook."
"My mom taught me and my sister when we were kids. Plus, I live on my own," he leads me to the dining room, where he has the table set. I'm surprised he didn't go all out with candles and everything. This way the atmosphere is more relaxed so I'm glad.
"Seriously, Sidney, it smells like heaven, and looks like it, too," I stare at the plates with steak and steamed vegetables and mashed potatoes.
"Let's hope it tastes like it, too."
I laugh. He pulls out my chair so I can sit and crosses over to the other side of the table.
"I hope you like the wine, too, I didn't know what you like, well, I know you like to drink orange juice," he snickers, "I didn't think it went with this."
I shake my head, "I can't believe you spilled orange juice on me."
"I can't believe you wore a Panthers jersey, well, I'd get it if it was just for the game, but sitting at that table with all of them in a Panthers jersey was ridiculous."
"I didn't know I was going to the bar!"
Sidney laughs, "I'm sorry I spilled orange juice on you, I didn't think it would be a big deal I figured you'd just go change and it'd be okay."
I smile. That's sweet; he wanted to help me out from the start. "It's okay, thanks. You're really not an asshole... and you're a great cook."
Then we started talking about other things. We talked a lot about sports and our friends and it was really nice. We weren't flirting, but there was that feeling of kindness that you savor for someone when you want to make sure they get a good impression of you. It felt like a completely normal first date.
"I could really go for something sweet now," I said out loud, which I didn't mean to because I bet it came off rude, I just got so comfortable.
Sidney's eyes widened, "Crap! I didn't think about that."
I laugh, "It's okay, the food was amazing as it is."
"I have some ice cream if you want, though, I kind of want some, too, actually." Sidney got up from his chair.
I didn't want to pass up on that, "Yeah, that sounds good." I followed him to the kitchen.
