I have no idea how I got to the base of this hill. At the top was a tree...and...a dragon? What the heck!
Quickly, the sphynx is catching up, my dad urges. I slowly climb up the steep hill, full of exhaustion. No wonder, I've been chased by this monster for TWO FREAKING WEEKS. I don't even know how i can still be awake and running. I have some gashes on my arm, which are covered in ripped up rags from my shirt.
The sphynx roars, pouncing on top of me halfway up the hill. The sun is rising slowly, so I can make out her sharp teeth snapping at my face. "HELP. SOMEONE HELP ME!" I scream desperately, trying to keep her mouth from reaching my neck. Then I feel a tingling in my chest. My whole body feels like it is vibrating. This feeling, my mom taught me how to control it, to never let it out. Now, I am trying to force it out, to lose control. Because when I do, I shine.
Like, actual bright light radiating off of me. I guess it's my father's gift to me. Ever since I was born, I would burst into light at random times, sometimes when I was really happy or angry. When I was younger, it was weak, I couldn't harm anybody, only blind them for a few seconds. But now, my power has starting killing off the monsters. I guess that's an upside.
"ROWR!" the cat yelps as I start to glow bright. I concentrate my energies toward her, burning her fur off. Instead of cowering, she takes me by surprise and tackles me again. My ligh shuts off, and I black out for a few seconds. When I regain sight, the lioness clamps down on my arm hard.
I screech in pain, screaming, "HELP, HELP ME PLEASE. SOMEBODY, HE-" I get cut off as the lioness yet again clamps down on my arm. Tears fall from my eyes, as my voice is too raw to scream anymore.
This is how I will die. Getting eaten by a sphynx. Maybe I could see my mom again, be with her. That's a nice thought. Me and her together.
I start to lose consciousness as my whole arm goes numb. I cannot see anymore, nor hear anything. But my body registers in my final moments, the heavy weight is pulled off, and someone touches my face.
And then everything goes black.

I didn't know that death was so...peaceful. I suspected a dark underworld that is large and tiring. I though I would be walking, or at least standing. But no, I am lying down on something soft, maybe a bed. Are there beds in the Underworld? I should look around.
My eyes crack open just a bit. What I see surprises me. There is light, everywhere. There is no light in the Underworld is there?
"Finally, you're awake," someone says suddenly. I jump slightly, adjusting my eyes to my surroundings. I'm in this large room with other beds. Nobody is in any of them. I guess this is kind of like a hospital? Execpt it's not cold, the walls aren't a sickly color, and I'm not wearing a horrible dress that covers only half of my body. At least, I don't think so. Someone coughs, making me flinch in the quiet room.
A boy. In a large aviator jacket with an orange shirt under it with black pants. He looks about fourteen, so he's my age. He is tall with dark brown hair and eyes with pale skin. Not too thin, just lean. He laughs quietly.
He is my definition of cute.
Wait what?
"Hey there. You okay now?" he asks.
"I...think...so," I croak. Oh great, my voice just sounds lovely.
"I'm Nico di Angelo, I am here to help you. Do you know who you are?" he inquires.
"I'm Elena Del Sol-" I am cut off by a girl bursting into the room. Her blonde curly hair flows freely behind her. She has the hair I wish I could have. She looks about sixteen or seventeen, and her gray eyes give her a scary, intelligent look.
