"Emma. Let's meet up today, um, at the cafe you work at." Mark said, on the phone.

I grinned widely. "Sure, see you in thirty minutes."

We both hung up and I got ready as fast as I could. I'm the only child and my father passed away when I was ten years old. That was also the year I lost my best friend. He moved to a different school and since then we haven't been in touch. I sighed and looked at myself in the mirror.

I just remembered, in three days my old high school friends were coming over to meet Mark. It's so weird because I haven't seen them since graduation.

Just thinking about it made me nervous.

I met Mark at the cafe. "Hi." I said, giving him a peck on the cheek before sitting next to him.

"So, what's up?" I asked and he sighed with frustration. He wouldn't look at me, which made me quite nervous. Was I bothering him?

"How am I going to say this?" He mumbled.

I raised my eyebrows. "Huh..? Say what?"

I hope he proposes.

I've been waiting forever for this. He looked at me and takes my hand causing my heart to skip a beat. "Emma..." He said, slowly, not looking at me first. He cleared his throat.

"Yeah?" I said, getting closer to him.

Proposal?

He looked at me. "I'm breaking up with you, Emma. I'm sorry... Have a good life." He said, and gave me a peck on the cheek.

What?

My smile dropped and at the moment I couldn't think straight.

"Bye." He said before walking away. My heart broke into a million pieces whilst my eyes blurred. Tears spilled down my cheek as I tried to understand what the hell just happened.

I laughed like a dork and began crying.

"Emma? Emma!"

I didn't look up, but cried even more by the voice. "Emma, what's wrong? Why are you crying?" Jessica asked, and I looked at her. "Did Mark do this to you? Are you okay? What happened?"

I cried on her shoulder and she pat my back. I didn't know what to say or do. My heart burned in pain. "It's okay... It's okay..." She soothed quietly. I took big breaths and tried my best to keep myself together.

"Tell me. What happened between you two?" Jessica asked, frowning. She took my hands and I sighed while sniffing. My eyes felt puffy and I wiped them. Jessica, my best friend, my co-worker, my cry-on-shoulder friend. We didn't go to school together and I wished I met her before high school started. She was the one best friend anyone would want to have.

"He... He... He b-broke up... With me..." I said with confusion and disbelief as the words spilled out of my mouth.

"Oh my- I'm gonna kill him." She said, standing up. I took her hand to stop her.

"No... Please don't." I said and she turned to look at me.

"Why not!? That little piece of shit broke your heart." She said, flopping down to the seat in front of me. She gave me a huge sigh of frustration and I closed my eyes.

"I'm sorry... Let's go have a girls night out tonight alright?" She said, and I shook my head.

"I'm not in the mood." I said, slowly opening my eyes.

"Then let's go home and I'll take care of you." She said, and I looked at her with a smile.

"Okay."

I undid my ponytail and took off my apron. I struggled untying the knot so I asked Jessica for help.

I could never untie knots.

I smiled in the mirror and walked out of the bathroom. I was on my thirty minute break and I have never felt so unfortunate going in my break since my high school friends were here, ready to ask me about Mark Tuan.

What am I going to tell them? I can't tell them my boyfriend just broke up with me. Should I just tell them he's busy and can't make it?

I sighed nervously, trying to calm my shaking hands. The fact that Mark broke up with me two days ago... I still couldn't get over it.

I hate him.

"Emma! Over here!" Sooyoung shouted waving at me. I smiled at her. I looked at Jessica who's was wiping the counter, pretending not to notice. She gave me a thumbs up secretly and walked away.

I walked towards Sooyoung and the others, but accidentally bumped into someone. I felt the burn of coffee sinking in my shirt and jumped from the burn before grabbing my shirt.

"Oh my god." I whispered to myself.

"Sorry! I'm really sorry!"

I looked at up at that person, anger or irritation, I didn't know how I felt in the moment.

"It's okay," I said and he hastily gave me napkins and also trying to wipe the coffee stains off my shirt himself when I looked up at him.

"Ah—I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to—",

"No, it's okay." I said taking the napkins.

"I'm sorry. I'll do anything to make up for it." He said, and I shook my head.

Wait.

I look at him. "Anything?" I asked, and his worried eyes tells me 'yes'.
