The quiet places in between are
Much too far apart.
He treks the road to ruin,
Disguised as holy ground
To cleanse his weary soul,
And he's so good that
It makes you sad
To watch him on his way.The Old Man said "You can stay
Awhile in the bed of my truck.
I can drive and you can talk."
His belt is getting heavy
So he tells him his story
And then he's on his way.
The Old Man said "I wish you'd stay."Spirit conquers reason as he
Wanders through the woods,
But no matter for
North is the only thing true,
And he who seeks truth and
Solitude
Must wander north further. He is free
As he stands at the crown of the mountain.
He is alone
As he gazes upon the spaces in between.
He is mad
For a lifetime on the holy ground. But he survived the winter.
He survived the cold.Yet spring came in all its
Terrible glory
And brought with it
Death.He didn't know the names.
He wonders if God is playing games.
"It's not fair!" He shouts into the abyss
But no one can hear him
For he is alone, and mad, but no longer
Free.Death cradles him in knowing palms.
The Old man said "I wish you'd stay."
