"Join together in following my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do."
LET'S TALK
As a young person, you probably want to pattern your life after one role model or another. There's nothing wrong with having a role model, but you must let the Word of God guide you in choosing the right one. And our theme scripture today is so relevant in this regard.
Paul says, "Follow my example, and take note of those who are also living in the same way." You're supposed to pattern your life only after godly characters, not people who don't know or recognise God. There are many famous people in the world whose lives don't glorify God. They're perceived to be successful, but their accomplishments don't count with God. You can't afford to pattern your life after such folks.
There're also those who pretend to be godly outwardly, but aren't committed to God inwardly.
The Bible says to keep away from them as well. In the subsequent verses to our theme scripture, we read: "For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things" (Philippians 3:18-19 NIV). As you make your journey through life, observe carefully the lifestyle and ambitions of whoever you look up to as a role model.

Dear heavenly Father, I thank you for enlightening me with your Word on the importance of choosing the right people to follow. I receive wisdom and function with understanding henceforth. I'm guided by your Word, to choose rightly and follow wisely.

Re-examine your role models in the light of today's lesson.
