I gasped for air, back arching and my insides squeezing together, my fingers turning white from my grip on the marble counter. Breaths shallow, vision blurring, “Stop, please.” I breathed.

“No, it’s almost over,” a voice cooed behind me.

Tears were threatening to come but I wouldn’t let them. Suddenly the door flung open and Val was standing there, wide-eyes and mouth open.

“You’re not ready yet?!” she cried, marching over to us, “we have to be down in the ceremony hall and in place in less than 15 minuets!”

“I can’t do it.” I said holding my breath while looking into the bathroom mirror. My blonde hair was in a ponytail, hair that hung free was curled in to tight ringlets so my hair that would normally be at my belly button now barely brushes my shoulders. Makeup was applied lightly since it seemed impossible to accommodate my light hair color and my olive skin tone at the same time. My wound was practically gone, the only way you would notice it is if you knew it was there or you were staring at my chest. An appealing girl was in the mirror but the way she looked back showed clear distress. “You know I could never handle corsets. No matter how long I’ve had to wear them.” My voice and eyes pleading with the girl standing next to me clear annoyance in her eyes.

“At least you already have natural curves,” she replied.

Her light sandy blonde hair was in a half pony. The top part curled and twisted into itself while the free hanging part was separated in to two tight ringlets, one resting on each exposed shoulder. Her sleeves started at the edge of her shoulders, gold trimming around all the edges of her Affinity blue dress like mine. We both had the traditional Affinity blue dresses, called Victorian from one of the first queens in Affinity.

The few differences between her dress and mine are that her sleeves start only once it left her shoulders, panning out in to flow-y waves with gold trimming. Her blue dress was more like a goddesses dress; it perfectly matched her graceful stride, flowing with every step she took. It contained a single gold bow in the back as it rippled to the floor.

My dress has puffy shoulders and tight fitting sleeves; it was form fitting, hence the corset, but the exploded into blue ripples with gold trimming until it reached the floor. But the only part I had on at the moment was a corset and the wiring that goes under the dress.

I heard Willow sigh in defeat behind me, giving one last tight tug before tying the corset and backing away to grab the rest of my dress. Val and Willow worked together to make sure I had my dress in place and that my hair did not get too messed in the process. Once deemed princess presentable we left the room and followed Willow to the back of the Ceremonial space.

“Finally Ladies you’re here,” Jacques said clearly relaxing, “That was really close. I thought I was going to start this without you. Now come…” Grabbing our wrists he dragged us over to the other princesses then leaving to make sure everything else was prepared.

“Well, well, well, look who decided to show up late.” Trina bantered in her gold Elizabethan Trinity dress. Hers had puffy shoulders and a collar that extended far past her neck. It was form fitted until it reached her hips then it flared out so much I’m pretty sure that she could rest her arms on it. Her makeup was interesting but traditional; they way they did her eyes made it so her blue eyes pop and look fierce, while her lips were strawberry red only in the center forming a heart. Her hair was curled into a heart shaped beehive at the top of her head with her tiara was place right behind the humps of the heart.

“Fashionably if I do say so myself,” I declared while Willow adjusted my tiara on my head.

“Enough already ladies,” Jacques exclaimed walking back over to us, “Miss. Valencia please stand behind Miss. Jurani and Nakari please stand and the end of the line without complaining.”
