“I feel like marmalade.” Val cried.
“It is not even that late yet! It is only 11.” Tai Lan added handing Val and I both drinks.
“Thanks. I know what you mean. I feel like I’ve danced with every guy here.” I said exaggeratedly taking a big gulp.
“Not all of them,” Mused a notorious sarcastic voice.
I stopped mid-swallow as my eyes widened. I looked between Val and Tai Lan only to get the I-did-not-see-anything-but-I-know-something-is-going-on-look from both of them. I finished my swallow and slowly turned in my seat to see those cunning yet flirty green eyes.
“You look better than when we last met,” Keir stated.
My face probably turned a noticeable pink since Val did not know of our last meeting and I know will interrogate me about later. I cleared my throat, “So to what do I owe the pleasure?”
“My presence is a pleasure now?” He teased and my princess smile started to slip. “Don’t get mad. I am only here to ask you for a dance,” He held his hand out.
“Yes! She would love to dance with you,” Val answered taking my glass away from me and placing my hand in his. “And listen, the next one is a fun duet dance.”
“Eh, wha-?” I stuttered as Keir pulled me to my feet.
“Come now,” Keir said letting go of my hand and instead placing it on the small of my back leading me to the dance floor.
Where Keir stopped was the center of the dance floor but there were enough people that we did not stand out more than I could have as a princess. He turned me so I am facing him. I raised one hand and placed on his shoulder and held up the other for him to grasp. And we danced. Moving, twirling, dipping and lifting on queue with everyone else in the ballroom. I tried my best not to look him in the eye because every time our eyes met my insides tingled and I could only focus on him and nothing else; I just followed his lead until I was able to look away. Getting lost in his emerald eyes is very unnerving because I know he is trying to seduce me or something and I am not going to fall for that.
The dance ends with the female being spun out the twirled into the arms of the male partner. Butterflies erupted in my stomach as Keir spun me out; unfortunately for me our eyes met but it was only for a second as I was spun in to him with my back against his chest.
“I caught you now,” he whispered tickling my ear. His breathing was slightly rough from the dancing.
“I suppose you have.” I murmured while untangling our arms.
We straightened out but he did not let go of my hands.
“Well you got your dance,” I said attempting to pull away but he tightened his grip as the next song started.
It was a slow song, the lights started to dim, lovers and dates started to fill the floor. I knew I had to get away but it was already too late. Keir pulled me in and slipped his arm around my waist so it was now futile to try to escape especially now that people were watching me again. I held out my hand once again but instead of grabbing my hand he grabbed my wrist and put my hand around the crook of his neck. Then hastily slipped that hand tight around my waist so that we closer than that time I ran in to him in the hallway. There was only enough distance between us to sway back and forth. I could feel my cheeks starting to turn pink again and the only thing I could do was look at our feet.
“Don’t you know,” Keir started, removing a hand from my waist, dragging his fingers up my neck and under my chin so that I was looking him. “That it is rude not to look your partner in the eyes?”
