Chapter 1: Rescued

Sam's PoV

A giant blast erupted from the cabin as I fly through the smoke, landing by my friends. I cough multiple times before I am picked up by Mike and Chris. I stumble, but I'm able to stand on my own. I look up into the now orange sky and sigh in relief. It's dawn. I wish Emily could be with us. She wasn't very nice, but she didn't deserve to die. I spot a helicopter flying towards us. Mike waves his arms to catch their attention, though the burning lodge may have done that already. The chopper lands and we practically sprint toward it, grateful to be alive.

"Is everyone alright?" A man asks us. I nod, obviously lying, but I'm not one to admit needing help. Ashley was in tears still. "E-Emily... Josh..." She repeated, over and over. I felt a pang of guilt. I tried to prevent Emily's death. I tried to stop Mike from pulling the trigger... I could've done more. And Josh... I turn to Mike "W-What happened to Josh?" I ask him, my voice cracking. He looks at me and looks down at the shining snow. He sighs, "Hannah took him." He says at last.

"What??" I almost shout. "Did you try to save him?" I question him.

The man gestures us into the helicopter and he closes the door. Soon enough, we're hovering over the cursed mountain, with out friends still there. I turn to Mike "Well???" I ask again.
"Well what?" He says, confused.
"DID YOU TRY TO SAVE JOSH??!!" I yell at him. He nods quickly. I slouch in my seat. I can't help but wonder that if I stayed with them, maybe he'd still be with us.. Maybe. Mike better be telling the truth about trying to save Josh or I'll personally push him out of this helicopter.

My thoughts are interrupted by the pilot.

"You kids are coming with Officer Jenkins for questioning." He informs us. We all just silently nod.

I tap my foot gently many times before we land by the station. We all exit the chopper along with the Officer. He leads us in and has us sit in a waiting room looking place.

"So, I understand that y'all are traumatized from that experience. But we need this information to find your friends and to figure out what exactly happened. So.. Who's first?" He announces.

We all exchange glances, nobody wanted to talk about it. Especially so soon. We just look blankly at Officer Jenkins.

"Alright, that's okay. We can do this after y'all get some rest. See ya in a few hours!" He says, leaving the room. Ashley hugs her legs "I can't do this." She says, almost breaking down into tears. Chris rubs her back "It'll be okay Ash... It'll be okay.."

That's the last thing I heard before I fell asleep.
