"Um, Ben, it's time to get up." An annoying voice said.

"Go the hell away, it's Saturday." I said. I could practically feel the awkwardness emanating from Prince.

"But we're supposed to be buying me shoes and new clothes. I figured you'd want to come along." Prince said. I groaned an chunked my pillow at him, much to my regret. Now I was pillow-less. "Okay, but we're leaving in five, so if you want to come you better hurry." he said before shuffling out of my room and closing the door.

I exhaled and opened my eyes, glancing at the clock that yelled eleven in the morning and staring at the pillow across the room. I pushed myself out of bed and grabbed the pillow.

I laid back down and after thirty seconds felt something tickling my nose. I opened my eyes and grabbed the tiny gray hair in disgust.

I stared for another second and realized who's it was. I sat up and looked at the door then back at the hair.

"Crap." I said.

"Hold on! Don't leave yet!" I yelled at the white Chrysler leaving the driveway. The car stopped and mom waved me forward. I quickly made my way to the car and slipped into the middle seat in the back.

"Almost didn't make it." Prince said, making eye contact with me in the rear view mirror.

"I know." I said monotone, avoiding his eyes.

The car ride was miserable. Mom and Prince never stopped talking, and there was no radio to distract me. Why wouldn't mom get me a cell phone so I could distract myself? Instead I watched out the windows and counted the amount of red cars that passed. So far I counted six in the twenty minutes that we drove. Did the mall really have to be so far away?

I found myself veering away from the window and to Prince. I only saw his face when he turned his head to talk to Mom, but I noticed how vibrant happy his expressions were. How could he be so happy? If I ran away from an orphanage and I could change species in a matter of seconds but still lived in streets until recently, I'd be bitter.

More than bitter. Maybe I would have thought of living in a household before Prince did, but to know that people would prod and poke me because of what I could do would make me hate. I'd hate everyone. So how?

"Because he has you." I heard mom say. That pulled me out of the day dream I was in and I cleared my throat.

"Um, I'm sorry. What?" I asked. Mom chuckled and I struggled with the strange feeling I had.

"I said that Prince should go with you. I was talking about shoes and I thought you were listening. You were staring right at him." she explained.

"Oh, yeah sure. You okay with that, Prince?" I asked.

"Yeah." he said happily. I left the conversation again, starting over the game with the red cars.

1...2...5...

"We're here!" Mom chirped. I sighed in relief and made my way out of the car and sauntered my way a few feet away from the car. I waited on mom as she fumbled around in her purse, Prince coming to stand by me. There were a lot of people here, cars filling up the parking lots. Saturdays... Ugh.

"Benny, I don't think I have my card in my purse. Oh no, I remember now! I left in on the counter. Now we have to drive back and get it." she exclaimed sadly. Prince looked disappointed by but made his way back to his seat. I didn't budge.

"Mom. We can stay here while you go get your card. It'll give us a chance to look around anyways." I said. Mom smiled and Prince nodded.

"That would be great. See you in thirty minutes?" she asked. I scoffed and Prince came to my side once again.
