"I swear to everything holy and righteous that if you do not get away I will smite you!" My mother yelled at Prince. This is not how it was supposed to go. It's been a day or two since I discovered Prince's secret and it became our secret. Everything was going along smoothly. I would sneak food into my room, feeling bad that he had to put up with cat food all the time, he would refrain from using the bathroom or coming out of the room when my mother was here, and at night he slept on the bed in whatever form he wanted to as long as he didn't touch me.

I woke up today with a rat on the pillow next to mine, and made a huge mistake by screaming my lungs out. My mother rushed in with her baseball bat, terrified as I lay shock frozen next to a rodent. Prince made the mistake of changing into a cat again, out of fear or habit I don't know. After a few minutes of my mother swearing up and down that she was crazy, she tried to pull me away from him as if he was the devil himself. Prince turned human, grabbed me and protected me as if she was trying to harm me. In full naked bliss he stood there, my mom crying and trying to comprehend all that was going on. Why was I so bad at hiding stuff?

Realizing that Prince was in more danger than me, I switched positions with him and spread my arms out as my mother threatened to smite him.

"Mom! It's fine. Please, we can explain. He's not dangerous, just—"

"Benny, get away!" she yelled. I sighed, realizing that this wasn't going to work.

"Mom, please, calm down. No one is going to get hurt, okay? No need for smiting, okay?" I reassured her. She finally tried to assess the situation, and dropped her bat. She nodded, obviously going to be traumatized for some time. I stepped away from Prince, giving him a look that both meant it's going to be okay, and get dressed. I walked my crazed mother out of the room, down stairs, and to the dining table.

I talked to her about it for maybe ten minutes before she finally calmed down.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you, this is what I was afraid of." I said. I was plotting a way to tell her, but came up blank each time. She nodded.

"I know. Sorry, I just didn't know how to react. So he was just born like this?" she asked, rubbing her tired face with her hands. I nodded.

"Do you want to talk to him? He's still Prince, just more human." I suggested. She looked at me, and then nodded. I got up from the dining table, walking up the stairs to my room, finding a dressed human lying face first on my batman comforter. He wore a pair of the plaid boxers I had bought him the other day and a black t-shirt.

"Hey, she wants to talk to you. It'll be okay." I said, coming over to the bed, standing awkwardly as he sat up.

"You sure? I thought she wanted to smite me." he chuckled. I nodded. He got up, giving me a hug. I tried to wiggle free but failed.

"W-what's this for?" I asked. He sighed and pulled back, his hands hanging loosely by his sides.

"Just in case this isn't my home anymore. I might even become a science experiment." he said jokingly, but I knew he was devastated.

"That won't happen, I'll make sure of it." I said. He nodded doubtfully.

"Let's hope so." he said, walking out my door and down the stairs. I sighed and collapsed on my bed, looking at the time. It was four in the morning, great.

I quickly fell asleep, all the drama passed and my brain dying. I awoke to someone shaking me. I opened my eyes, my curtain pulled aside as dull light soared through the window. I squinted my eyes at the bright alarm clock on my nightstand, seeing that it was six in the morning.

"What? I'm sleeping." I said angrily, sleep still so close to retrieve. Prince squatted next to the bed where he was eye level.

"Sorry. I just wanted to tell you that she went to bed. I think everything is okay. I'm going to bed now." he said. I nodded, closing my eyes and feeling him crawl over me and to the other side of the bed.
