Logan's POV
8:45 PM
This was the first time in my life I would ever regret not taking Mr.B's PE class. I mean, even if I'd been raised by a bunch of apes like Tarzan, I'd never have the ability to swing from trees to trees like that!
I'm just not born for this kind of activity.
"Almost there" -I thought to myself. Everything was utterly silent. There I heard a scratching sound. Perhaps from a pen. Someone certainly had a lot to write down. A small sniff. She was crying. And a ballad version of "Loser Like Me" by Glee. Almost like she was whispering to herself.
That moment, I knew I was in the right place. Charlotte's balcony.
- What The Hell On Earth Are You Doing Here??? - Her eyes widened as she heard my knock on her wall.
- I was expecting a more friendly, and also smarter, greeting. Can't I come and check on my friend?
- I guess you can...
- Can I come in now?? - I laughed
- Yeah sure I forgot. Silly me! -She laughed along. That laugh... was pure music in my ears.
Her room was cozy, and smelled like freshly baked choco-chip cookies. Reminded me of my mother.
I eyed her up and down. She was full of bruises, full of scars, there were blood stains on her shirt, but she was still breathtakingly beautiful.
Noticing my intense stare, Charlotte broke the silence:
- So why didn't you just use something they call "DOOR"? That wouldn't freak me out. And for giving me a heart attack like that, you'd better tell me every single detail of this visit' s motivation, Log - Charlotte said, emphasising the "door" part. Her eyes were red from all the crying, and I knew that she was still in terrible pain, but that little smile which was drawn on her lips, like Taylor Swift would say, "could light up this whole town". It was priceless.
- In Science Class, I saw Pete, you know, the guy who bullied you the other day, and his crew were planning something. They laughed suspiciously and they gave each other high-fives. When the bell rang, he even pushed me aside and rushed out urgently. He has already hated school, but not that much, 'cause of course, people are terrified by him always. He was so eager that I immediately sensed something wrong. I saw him waiting in front of the locker room, and he even gave me a black look...
She listened to every word I said. Though her eyes became red again memorising everything, she swallowed her tears and smiled. She was so strong.
- Go on, Logan. I'm still not satisfied by your reasons. - She laughed mischievously.
- If you insist. After school, I waited for you hoping you would let me walk you home like yesterday. I was the first one to be out of the school, and the last one to leave. I began to be very worried, so I came to your house right after dinner. I looked through the window and ... overheard a bit of your parents' conversation. They seemed to be strangely worried and sad, and they were saying something about your avoiding any dramatic meeting that would remind you of what happened and all, so I knew that I couldn't just knock on the front door... - That was certainly the longest time I'd ever talked.
- You know, your observing skill is unbelievable Logan. You may freak people out someday. - Charlotte joked.
- I certainly freaked you out didn't I? - I played along. I just loved making her smile, it was like looking at a beautiful piece of art. - So, in general, I'm here to make sure that you're ok.
She punched my shoulder teasingly. "Of course I'm OK! I'm wonder woman, remember? I'm invincible!! Sorry love, but your concern was wasted. But perhaps it made you consider taking PE, am I right?". She was acting tough, and she called me "love".
