The crowd gasped.
The guy mumbled again and the fly guy translated, "He says, 'There is ze human. 'He has a French accent."
Not good. How did he figure it out?
Everyone gasped as the door closed right in front of Johnny.
"Johnny's not a human. He's my right arm's cousin," Frankenstein got mad. "He's lying."
The invisible man spoke up, "Yeah. And why is he picking his nose?"
The guy mumbled again. "He says, 'It's a long story.'"
"Hey, wait, no! Get off me!" A rat had climbed onto Johnny's head.
The rat squeaked from atop Johnny head.
He mumbled once more. "He says, 'Behold ze human.'" He pointed at Johnny.
Lots of monsters screamed and ran around.
"I don't believe it." Mavis walked up to Johnny. "Is it true? Are you a human?"
"Yes. I'm so sorry." Johnny looked kind of scared and ashamed.
Should I be sorry for him?
"I don't care." Mavis hugged Johnny. "I still want to be with you."
"Uh..." Johnny looked at the unhappy Dracula. "Well, tough... b-because I don't want to be with you, b-because you're a monster and I hate monsters." He walked to the door and said, "Goodbye."
"This is all your fault!" Mavis ran for here room.
NO! "Dracula!" Lis ran to him. She put her hands on Dracula's chest as he hugged her close. Her eyes were watery as she looked up into his eyes. Lis stayed pressed to his chest until the room was clear of all the monsters. Then she lifted her head again, tears streaming down her face. "You should go talk to her. I'll come with you if you want."
Dracula looked into her eyes. His were sad but he wasn't crying like Lis. Lis could see the emotions of disappointment, anger, fear, and just about everything but joy was swimming in the count's brilliant blue eyes. "No. I will talk with her alone." He smiled through the sadness that was overwhelming him. He let go of her and they walked side by side to Mavis's room. Lis waited outside the door while Dracula went in to talk with Mavis.
About fifteen minutes after Dracula went in he came back out. When he came out he had a look of hopeless realization on his face, as though what he must do was near impossible. He pecked Elisabeth's cheek before rushing off to the lobby.
Okay... I think I need to talk to her. Lis walked into the bed room but no one was in the room. "Mavis, where are you?" The window was open. The roof. Lis climbed out of the window. "Mavis?"
"Dad was right, Lis. The humans hate us."
"No..." Lis hugged Mavis to her chest as she spoke. "No your father was wrong. Humans don't hate us. You're still young... What is that? What were you reading?" Lis picked up the little book that was beside Mavis's foot. She read in her head. 'Two lonely bats crashed in the night. They felt a Zing. Love at first sight. They knew right then they would be husband and wife. For a Zing only happens once in your life. Your Zing will come, my love. Cherish it. Love, Mommy.'
"I thought we zinged... but I guess it was only me."
"You know, that's how I felt when I met your father." Lis dropped the book. "When I met him I felt a 'zing'. A rush throughout my body that made me want to get close and run away from him at the same time."
"Thanks, but your love didn't reject you in front of everyone!"
Lis decided to drop the subject. The sky is getting lighter. "Mavis, dear, please come inside the sun will be out soon." Lis stood and helped Mavis up.
"Fine but dad should be happy now. There's no reason for me to leave. I have no more dreams. I'm just like him now."
"Your father has dreams... he just doesn't know what they are." She'll never forgive him!
