-Skye’s POV-
“We’re here!” my mom exclaimed. I got out of the car and went to the trunk to get my stuff. My dad got the box of books I brought along. “Hello there!” I heard someone say excitedly. I turned around and saw a red-headed girl, and I mean actual red hair, wearing the school colours smiling at me. "Which hall are you looking for?" “Umm,” I looked down at the paper I wrote it on, “Myerson Hall.” “That’s where I’m staying! I can take you there!” she said.
I looked at my parents and they nodded. My dad gave her the box. “Have fun, Skye!” my mom said hugging me. I hugged my dad too and then they left. “Follow me.” The girl said. We walked past a whole bunch of I guess clubs that were recruiting. We finally got to the dorm and I put my stuff on the single bed. “I’m Melanie by the way. I already know your name.” she said, shaking my hand, “Nice to meet you.” I replied.
“So where are you staying?” I asked. “Here!” she replied. Well that’s a coincidence. I unpacked my clothes and put them in the dresser beside my bed. “So how old are you, Skye?” she asked. “17.” I replied. “Are you turning 18 later in the year?” she asked. Obviously she’d ask that. “No, my birthday passed about 3 months ago.” I said, sitting down on my bed. She sat in a chair near me, “So you’re the one everyone’s talking about.” She said. “Yup, pretty much. How old are you?” I asked her. “19, it’s my second year here, but I’ll be finishing when you do if you’re doing four years.”
“Why?”
“I wanted to do an extra year.” She replied. I just nodded. "By the way, there's a picnic me and a few friends are having tomowwor. Wanna come?" "Yeah, sure." I replied, glad she invited me. Someone knocked on the door and then just walked in. That was pointless. “Hey Melanie!” some guy said. “Kyle!” she exclaimed. She got up and they hugged each other. They started engaging in some conversation about how awesome the school is and what not. I just sat there examining them. He had brown hair and green eyes. He looked to be 5’10. Definitely older than 18, but younger than 22. Slim, but fit.
Their body language said they’re close, but not close enough to be a couple. “Well, Kyle, this is Skye, my new friend. Skye, my cousin, Kyle.” Melanie said, introducing us. I stood up and shook his hand, “Hi.” I said, “Hey…It’s nice to meet you.” He replied. “You too.” I said. He looked me up and down then smiled. I removed my hand from his grip. “So, how old are you?” he asked. Is that common for them or something? “17. And, no, I’m not turning 18 this year.” I replied. He laughed, “I’m 20.” “Officially out of teen years, then.” I replied. “Yeah.” He said.
“Well, I just came by to say hey. I’ll see you at the picnic tomorrow?" “We’ll be there.” Melanie replied. “Great! Well, it was nice meeting you, Skye.” He said. “You too.” I replied. “Bye!” Melanie said. “Bye.” He replied then shut the door. “You like him!” she said. “I barely know him.” I protested. “Well, he likes you so you don’t have to ponder on that.” She said. I just laughed. She threw a pillow at me and then we started a pillow fight. This seems like it’ll be a good experience.
