My only anodyne is to sleep. When I'm sleeping, I'm not sad, I'm not angry, I'm not lonely, I feel no pain and I get to be nothing... nobody. I faintly hear beeping sound from at distance. I feel numb, I see darkness, I want to see light not more just a spark would please me. A spark that would allow me to see Val one last time. My head starts to throb slowly increasing it's intensity, my chest pains when I breathe; I try moving but I find my hands straddled. I want to break free from these bondage's, I want this pain to end. I scream for Val but my voice goes aphasic. I scream and scream but my voice is bound within my mind. I hear few muffled voices but I cannot decipher what they are about, I hear them as though there are some radio signals jumbled up. I try one more time to call for Val, "Val."
I feel warm hands casing my wrist and the person tries to talk but I can't understand and, "are alright?"
The voice echos again, "Méli are you alright?" I try to recognize the voice,'Spyros, only he calls me honey.'
I once again try to open my eyes and as I regain my strength slowly I see a tunnel of white light hit me that makes my head throb again; but I continue and the light soon changes from a tunnel to blur vision of Spyros. I blink my eyes a few times to adjust my vision and finally I can see Spyros' face etched with fear, pain and anger.
"Hi, moró." I try smiling at him. ("Hi, Baby.") I use the endearment that he hates, he hates it when I call him a baby.
"Méli," he bends down and rests his forehead on mine and I feel a tear drop softly land on my cheeks.
"What happened Spyros, where is Val? and how is Brandt?" I remember the massacre we all went through at Lambros' place. Spyros moved away and sat besides me on my bed.
"Visconti is fine he just left a few minutes back to check on Brandt, he is in an awful state. He has lost a lot of blood and his liver was ruptured so they have tried to fix him. He hasn't gained consciousness yet, but a few minutes back he was sinking and so Val rushed there." Spyros held my hand and kissed my hand, "You are the bravest lady I have ever met."
"How long have I been out?"
"Not much just five days and night." he brought his mobile out and dialed a number, "She is awake." he says it and cuts the call. Before I can ask who it was, Val rushes in with a team of doctors trailing behind."Cara." Val comes by my side where Spyros had just emptied. He holds my face and kisses me on my forehead, "Thank God you're alright." He fumbles and signals the doctors to check me.
"Hi I'm Nikos, you're doctor," he places the stethoscope on my chest, "Breathe deep for me."
I do as I'm told but my Stomach and ribs pain and so I sigh out a muffled sound.
"You have one broken rib and five stitches on your hip, there will be pain so we have pushed in some analgesics. I'll leave you all to catch up." he sadly smiles and walks out.
I look at Val, "What is wrong?" I look at him and then at Spyros I do that a fucking ten times before I lose my cool and shout again, "What the fuck is wrong? why are the two of you looking at me as though I'm some messed up creature neglected by God."
"Cara...Catherine calm down." Val held my hands.
"Untie me of these bondage's now I'm awake I can control my motions." I pull on to the straps.
"Catherine please calm down listen to what Valentiniua has to say." Spyros has a pleading eye with a hint of sadness.
"Catherine do you remember what happened after Donzel dragged you out in the front?" Val clenches his teeth. His face fatigued and covered with slight stubble, it gave him a much older look. His eyes showed tiredness.
