I reached the door of the study room. I hold the knobs, its metal, cold against my skin, and breathe in deep, looking at the vast door staring back at me. Beyond this door were answers; answers to all my unresolved concerns. I finally let out the breath I had been holding and push the door open. Three pair of eyes puncturing my heart when I look into their woebegone depths. I walk in further and sit on the couch next to Spyros'. They all sit back to where they rest before I barged in.
"So whose gonna shoot the breeze?" I stare each of them and cross my legs and lay back to view them.
They all looked at me in silence, Val had his steel stare hovering over my face.
"Catherine... just sober up. We want to explain, so keep cool. Will you?" Spyros tilts his anger at me cracking his fingers.
"Fine." I raise my hands in defense.
"Agapi mou, I'll start because it is I who had planted the seed of revenge in Caitlin." I look at him and nod swallowing the lump down.
"You remember that she left that day after arguing with you," he pauses to look at me "I know you do. Because I know that you dream that almost all times, every night. You replay the entire sequence of actions again and again inside your head." I look away and I see Val staring at my bandage, pain etched over him.
"Well she came here and I taught her all the codes, the deals, the ones you are so good at; and slowly gave her to handle shipments. It had almost been a year and she was keeping tabs on the Salvator's, and that is how she knew about Visconti's and their connections. Visconti's father was a good man and so was his mother, Fransesca. But Viola his second wife is Umberto's daughter. She has always been greedy for power just like her brother, she was to marry an American buisness man who ditched her for her vile games. So she met his father at a meeting with Umberto and took a fancy for his fathers power. She needed Fransesca out of her way and so she got her out by covering it up under the pretence of an accident. But in truth she was the one who killed her." Valentiniau's jaw clenched at the information but he did not display an ounce of pain on his sculpted face. "She enjoyed her powers as his wife and has joined her brother in many a ventures with the Visconti cult but when the power was given to Visconti here instead of her son Marcus, she united with her nephews to pull out her only thorn - Valentiniau. The shootout at the charity you attended with him, was nothing but a mere display of the vile games conspired by Viola along with the other baffoons." He got up and walked towards a cellarette opening it and pulls out his cigar.
'When did he know that Viola killed his mother? I'll ask him when we are alone. Now is not a good time....Argghhh. ... There is no good time I feel. Huh..'
"Now while keeping tabs on them, Caitlin found his history and their connections in depth. She knew that the only person that could help her was Visconti, if she ever gets stuck. Later, she pulls out information on Chiara, Donzel's sister. I'm sure you know her; as she was to marry Visconti." he points his cigar towards Val. "Our man based there told her that Chiara was no longer with him and so she asked him to investigate further. On further digging up she came to know that Visconti had denied partnership with Donzel to enter Spanish market. So Donzel invites a Spanish buisness man home, Diego Valasquez. When Diego met them he fell for Chiara's charm and that tinkled Donzel to make permanent connection in Spain through Chiara and Diego's marriage." he takes the cutter and trims his cigar.
"So when Diego proposed the merger Donzel agreed but with a condition that they would be married only after completion of five years of their partnership; to which Diego accepted." he lights his cigar and takes a puff.
"Why did he agree for such a condition?" I look at him and he looks towards Spyros.
"He agreed because he wasn't powerful where connections mattered. Facundo Reyes, now Caitlin's husband was his arch rival. Facundo had high connections and he was pairing up with him," Spyros eyes Val.
