Where are you going? Step by step, I follow you
Without a word, you lead me
Step by step, did you notice me? I have nowhere to hide.
Kishimoto Suzuki never wanted to fall in love. But as fate had it, she did. She first met Ushijima at the highschool entrance ceremony. He had held the door open for her and ever since then, she'd been hooked.
She'd heard about him in junior high and had seen him play before. Nothing prepared her for the real deal, though.
The warmth of his body pressed against her back as he pushed the door open for her from behind. She could practically feel his muscles from underneath his shirt.
From that day on, her feelings for him grew and grew. She went to every practice match, sat in a corner and cheered them on quietly, too shy to shout or call their names out, being the introvert she was.
Haruhi had once been her friend, back in first year. They were both on the track and field team. Haruhi was a high jumper whereas Suzuki had been a javelin thrower. Haruhi had been friends with Ushijima since junior high and they were in the same class.
One day, Haruhi had walked in on her looking through her camera.
"Hey, what you taking pictures of?" She asked Suzuki curiously. The friend hid the camera behind her back.
"It's nothing! Really..."
"It sure doesn't look like nothing. Let me see," Haruhi made a grab for the camera. Suzuki attempted to whip it away but she was too fast and soon, the blonde was scrolling through the pictures, eyes wide open in shock.
"W-when did you take these?" She asked, her voice low.
"Look, Haru, it's nothing. I swear it's just a hobby."
Haruhi shook her head and set the camera down onto the table.
"I thought you were just a fangirl but you're way past that already," she said, backing away.
"Haru, wait!"
"Don't call me that! I'm not going to be friends with someone who stalks other people who happen to also be my friends!" She yelled.
"Please-"
"You better stop this, Suzuki. I won't tell but if I find out you're doing anything weird, I won't hesitate to." She said darkly before walking away, leaving a crumbling Suzuki behind.
After that, Suzuki quit the team and went into hiding. Sure, she came to school but her mind was filled with fantasies of her and Ushijima she hoped would come true.
For a year, she walked close to him with her camera. She attended the tournaments and secluded herself in class only speaking when spoken to.
She'd been planning to confess to him this year, seeing as it was their last year. That was, until she showed up.
She; with her long hair and perfect proportions. She; with the brains and the looks of a celestial goddess. She; with that beautiful smile and audacity to snatch Suzuki's man away just as some progress was about to happen.
Their first encounter was interesting one. It was during lunch break. Suzuki had been wandering around the school as usual. She flipped through the pages of her file that stored her most valuable pictures. Mostly of Ushijima playing. She slipped in a few shirtless ones.
Just then, somebody ran into her. The file flew out of her hands and she was about to fall when someone quickly caught her.
"Woah!" It was a girl's voice. Aiko grinned that blinding smile.
"I'm really sorry about that. Are you alright?" She asked. Suzuki nodded frantically.
"Ah, it looks like you dropped something," Aiko picked it up. The pictures caught her eye and she flipped through.
"These are... really good." Aiko muttered. Suzuki grabbed the file.
"They're nothing." She said.
Aiko snapped her fingers and Suzuki swore she heard a light bulb light up at that moment.
"I know!" Suzuki held her breath and prayed.
"You're in the yearbook comitee, right? I'm guessing... the sports column?"
The girl gaped at how innocent Aiko seemed and nodded.
Suddenly, Haruhi rounded the corner.
"Oh, there you are and..." the blonde trailed off when she spotted Suzuki.
"It's been a while, Kishimoto." Suzuki nodded and hurried away.
"You know her?" Aiko asked. Haruhi ran her hand through her hair. "She's just someone I've seen around."
*
Suzuki couldn't believe that she could hate such a nice and beautiful person but it was a sad reality; she did.
She was angry at how unfair the world was to her. Ever since she'd quit the track and field team, her weight had sky rocketted. She looked nothing like she did two years ago. She didn't care so much, though.
Until she found herself face-to-face with Aiko. It was as if all of the confidence she had left was sucked out. How was it possible to be that perfect? She was amazed for a while before the anger and determination set in.
She had already devised a plan and was eager to execute it. All she needed was to set it up and wait for the pieces to fall into place before revealing the grand finale.
