Dear Black Suburbia,

Stop, Stop perpetuating ignorant stereotypes

Stop trying to be a thug or "about that life"

Because you'll never really know

Never know the desperation of those "in the hood"

Never hear the gunshots knowing another soldier died

Never see a dead body or smell blood so thick

So stop pretending 'cuz it ain't cute

Don't look down your nose

Acting like you're better than the rest

Those white people you love so much

See as just another black person

So don't be fooled

Be brave in your blackness, be firm

Do not be deterred by being one of few

Do not let the presence of your white friends

Keep you from talking; Speak loud and proud

Don't let anyone tell you you're not "black enough"

Blackness isn't based on the way you talk

Or the music you love to listen to

It's based on the color reflected in your mirror

THe color that makes people so nervous

The color that cost your ancestors their freedom

For that you are black enough.
