Flares by The ScriptAs the cloudy sky darkens, I flee through the woods, the ground and pine trees covered with a fresh layer of snow.
My large brown backpack swings on my back. The freezing air chokes me, but I run despite it. I trip down a small, icy hill, rolling down to the bottom. I groan and jump to my feet, my short brown hair sprinkled with frost. My thick dark blue jacket and jeans become wet from the damp layer of snow.
My hands start to feel numb from the cold.
I wonder if those guys are still behind me.At fourteen years old, I'm pretty fast. I don't stop running through the snowy forest. I reach the trunk of a huge oak tree and thick brush and I jump as my friend lunges from the brush.
"Bella!", I exclaim, catching my breath, "You scared the shit out of me!""Where's Jeremy?! They're catching up to us we have to go!", Bella says, ice strewn through her long red brown hair.
Bella is my age, and has on a brown jacket with a fur hood, along with black pants and boots.
"We'll find him, but we have to run!", I tell Bella, grabbing her arm and leading her away from the brush. Bella nods, panting but trailing behind me as we run. The snow crunches beneath our feet with each step we take. We stop in our tracks when we hear distant gunshots.
"Jeremy!", Bella cries out.
"We gotta keep moving! They could catch up to us!", I say to Bella, pulling her arm so we could flee from the distant gunfire.
"We can't just leave him!", Bella cries as we hear more gunshots.
"He can handle this", I assure Bella, looking into her eyes.
"What did...we even do?", Bella asks me, her eyes starting to water. The three of us, we found a camp. Then...it was downhill from there."I don't know, but what I do know is that we have to run", I tell Bella, "Okay?"
Bella sniffs and mumbles, "O-Okay."
The cloudy sky is now darker than before. Night has fallen.
Bella and I run through the freezing, icy forest. The snow crunches beneath our shoes as we run. I then hear Bella cry out in terror. I hear snarls from a biter, one of the undead. I can barely see it in the darkness, but I think its arm is tied around a tree branch. Bella screams, trying to fight off the biter which has grabbed her arm.
I think it's about time to say that I don't have a weapon. I lost it at the camp we found.
I freeze for a second to see what I could find to help Bella. I find a big stick on the ground and I pick it up. I jab it at the biter's head, but I just piss it off more. The biter holds onto Bella's arm with a death grip.
Just when it's about to dig into her flesh, a figure emerges from the darkness of night and strikes the biter in the head with a crowbar.
It's Jeremy.
The biter falls to the snowy ground, still alive. Jeremy impales it's head with the end of the crowbar, killing it.
"Are you guys okay?", Jeremy asks, out of breath with the bloody crowbar in his left hand. Jeremy has longish black hair, and is wearing a dark gray sweater and black pants, with a crimson red rucksack on his back.
