"He's gonna make it."

"Minho...I don't think he ca--"

"He's gonna make it!" Minho snapped, not wanting to hear any negativity from Jeff.

Three days. There were only three days left that Newt had to power through and the two week mark would be up. Only problem was, there was doubt in the air that the boy could do it. Minho had thought Newt looked bad four days ago. But if that was the case, he didn't know what to call the sight in front of him other than heart-wretchedly terrible.

Newt was still tightly chained down. His veins that looked swollen, stood out against his skin, as though it were snow. He was always covered in a layer of sweat that made him appear to have just taken a bath, and his harrowing breathing was absolutely horrific. Jeff said Newt was no longer struggling to breathe, he couldn't breathe. And as Minho listen to those desperate, anguished, miserable gasps for air, he knew he was right. The blond was literally on the verge of death.

But Minho wouldn't accept it. He continued doing what they had been doing, taking care of the human and now not knowing what else to do to help, so when Newt was tearing up his own vocal chords in his dreams, Minho would stroke his hair and just talk to him despite knowing the ailing boy couldn't hear him in his comatose. He would mostly just try to encourage him, telling him he believed in him and that he knew he could fight this.

"We should be safe in here for the night..." Newt softly said as he ushered Eve into the small cave they had found inside some rocks, deep in the woods.

"You think so?" She asked, sounding unsure but trusting in her brother.

The wounded boy limped over to the furthest corner that was masked in shadow, only a slither of light from the moon shining in. But he forced a small smile, "Yes, we're going to be fine..." He nodded.

Eve sat down, pulling her legs up to her chest a little, but watched Newt as he sat down beside her. Once he was settled, she instantly curled up to him, holding on to him like he was her life source. But mostly because he was. "...Newt..?"

"Yeah...?"

"Are we going to die..?"

There was a small moment of silence, Newt unsure of the answer. Could he really keep them alive all by himself? Especially now with his injury? Could he actually protect himself and his little sister? He honestly didn't know. But he decided it best to at least lie to her. "No. I'm going to protect you, I promise."

Again, silence. But Evelyn broke it, "And yourself."

"What?"

"Yourself. You have to protect yourself."

Newt looked down at her to meet those big, brown Bambi eyes, "Well...you're more important to me. I'll do anything it takes to protect you." Like Mum said.

"But if something happens to you, I won't have anyone to protect me anymore."

She did have a point there. She would never survive on her own. The thought of her dying alone made Newt's stomach wrench a little, but the thought of her being caught and taken as a bloodslave was even worse. Obscene images were already filling his head and he instantly willed them away, not wanting to imagine such horrors. "Okay...Then I'll protect us equally. But I will do what I have to okay?"

The blonde sighed and nodded, his eyes fluttering shut as she curled up to him more, "Alright..."

And not even 10 minutes later, they were both asleep from exhaustion.
