Behind every successful novel/book/short story is an outline. A knitted pattern designed to hold every bit of written structure.

So, should you outline? There are two types of writers: outliners and non-outliners.

Why should you care about story structure/outline? Because it will hold on your story. Its the backbone of your plot; a skeleton of your creation in which you can easily put on flesh and breathe in life. But without the skeleton, it will crumble.

Why do you think your plot looks loose, with no sense of direction?

The problem isn't with you. It's with your method.

Here's one solution: outline.

Even great ideas can collapse if they don't have a solid structure to support them.

How to make sure your story isn't a waste of time?

Do you understand what you're writing about? Can you write a few chapters about it without losing faith/interest yourself?

If you said/thought YES, then give it more time.

A solid structure will ensure you have enough material for heart-wrenching and/or spine-tingling scenes.

This way you will know what happens next all the time. You will have a map to every single place on your book.

Sounds good, right?

Okay, that's all.
