When I awoke, everything was so unfamiliar. The room I was in was crisp and expensive looking and the bed I was laying it looked like this was the first time it had been used. It still had the new mattress smell. Another smell mixed with it. One that cause the subtle scent of ginger, sweets and linen to permeate through the air. It smelled like home.
I slowly arose from the bed and poked the cold floor with the tip of my toes. I winced at the chilliness. I quickly dug my pizza pattern socks out of the mess of pillows then decided I would try to travel across the cold floor again.
I heard hushed talking from down the hall when I exited the room.
"Is she still sleeping?" One asked. The voice showed slight concern.
"Yeah. She sleeps like a rock." The other laughed.
"She is heavy like a rock too I bet."
"no no. Not at all."
Were they talking about me?
I stuck my head out from the corner of the hallway leading down to the living room stairs and listened harder. By mistake, I triggered a squeaking on the floor which caused both voices to become silent. Thumping followed and grew louder as someone climbed the stairs.A messy haired Jong Suk appeared on the top of the stairs. His feet feet were hidden by pj bottoms that were too big and his white shirt hug loosely off one shoulder. He looked like a model. Of course the attractive sight cause me to blush wildly.
"What are you doing?" He was clearly annoyed. Probably because I was caught red handed for eavesdropping. I fumbled on the slippery floor for a moment since i had been so surprised by his appearance. I corrected my posture and bowed formally to my new husband. "I'm sorry! I just woke up. I didn't hear anything." I panicked.
"Shut up" he hissed harshly before rubbing his brow with is thumb. "I don't care. Do what you want." His features softened for a moment, catching me off guard once again. For a millisecond, his brow softened into a light, straight line and his jaw relaxed. I swore I even saw a smile try to break through. He returned to his stone self and thumped down the stairs with me shuffling after him. When i got down stairs, there was no one in sight. The only possible explanation for the other voice was the cell phone that sat propped on a speaker next to the couch. The other voice didn't sound like it had been coming through a speaker though.
"I'm off work today," Jong Suk mumbled, "im forced to take a vacation day."
"Well that is good." I smiled weakly.
"No" he answered simply. I could tell he wasn't one for small talk even when he started it.
"I'm not off work so..." I mumbled back. I tried to slip away and grab my jacket and a decent pair of shoes but Jong Suk's voice stopped me in my tracks.
"Oh..." He whispered to himself. He actually seemed sad. I didn't know if it was about my leaving but it broke my heart.
"Well..." I began, "i'll text my boss and tell him i can't come in today."
Jong Suk didn't respond. Instead he sat on the couch and stared into nothing.
The morning continued with no major achievements of conversation from either of us. We just sat next to each other, only getting up once in a while. Finally I gained the courage to speak.
"Why did you marry me?" I asked.
Jong Suk was silent for a moment. "Because I had to," he finally answered.
"Me too." I sighed. "Do you think we will be a good couple?" I asked.
"No"
"Why?"
"What is a couple without love?" His words dug into my heart. It felt like he had opened up some wound in me. Instead of expressing the hurt feeling, i nodded and looked away. Conversation was useless with him.
My phone buzzed which saved me from the horror of trying to talk with my arranged husband. Soo Hyun's voice soothed me instantly.
"Hello. Did you sleep well?" He asked.
"Yes sir," i giggled, " thanks to a certain someone for tucking me in."
"Oh uh, yeah?" Soo Hyun was confused but went along with it.
"Was that not him that brought me to bed?" I thought to myself.
"Anyway," he went on, " how about I take you out of that house today? I figure you won't want to be there" i accepted without hesitation, "yes of course! Lets do that." I grinned and hung up. I was too excited to function now.
"Where are you going?" Jong Suk asked when i stood up and began to get ready to leave.
"Out" i answered simply. There was no way I would leave in a bad mood after talking to him. His sad tone failed to appear this time. He stayed silent and turned away.

"Hop in!" Soo Hyun called when he arrived. I ran up to his car and got in with a big smile. I had dressed up really nice for our meeting. I had a baby blue, loose dress on and a white bow and white slip-ons. I looked simple yet cute and I hoped that was Soo Hyun's type.We drove in a comfortable silence until we arrived at a small festival in a place that was completely unfamiliar to me. Soo Hyun guided me out of the car and onto the busy sidewalk. We didn't begin to walk right away though. Instead he stood and waited, making sure that he was visible in the crowd.
Just then, a dainty pair on arms wrapped around his waist from behind. A short, kitten looking girl emerged from behind him. "Oppa~" she giggled and leaned up to kiss him on the cheek. I froze.
"Hi~" he cooed and brought the girl into a tight hug, "i want you to meet someone. You two might become good friends." He smiled at me a gestured toward the cute girl in his arms. "This is my girlfriend, Lee." I felt my stomach tighten as a shook her hand. "Nice to meet you" she squealed then gave her full attention back to Soo Hyun, "honey, can we go get some yummy treats?" She asked in her best aegyo voice. Soo Hyun squeezed her cheeks and kissed her nose. "Of course sweetie." He smiled and motioned for me to follow.
Of course I did follow since there was no where else for me to go. I didn't know the area, therefore I was stuck behind the small aegyo girlfriend and the man who had treated me so lovingly the past few days. I felt my gut twist.
I watched as the two kissed and cuddled on small rides and couples related things. I sat awkwardly on the sideline. I was the sad looking married girl with her fresh, young couple friends. After two hours passed by, i couldn't hold it in anymore. I was going to cry and no one would be able to stop me.
"Hey, Lee and I am going to go on the Ferris wheel. Would you like to come." Soo Hyun appeared behind me. I hid my face so he wouldn't see the tears in my eyes. Luckily, it was getting late so I would have an excuse if I ran off. "Oh I have to get home." I'd say if things became unbearable.
Lee gave me a big smile and turned back to Soo Hyun. "She said yes. Let's go baby" She giggle and pulled him along to the Ferris wheel behind them. I trudged over to a bench in a well lit part of the festival. It was a small park area right next to the Ferris wheel. It was full of couples who sat on blankets or played games under the many strings of lights in the trees. I was the only one on my own in the star like lights. Or so I thought.
"This doesn't look fun. You looked excited when you left." The voice was familiar but didn't have the same tone. Jong Suk towered over me when I looked up. He was dressed up in a suit. I was beginning to think suits were the only types of clothing he owned. I looked up with a less than enthusiastic expression plastered on my face. He mirrored the expression.
"I am having fun" my voice quivered when I said those words. Jong Suk's face softened when he heard it. Nothing got past him. He sat down next to me without hesitation. I was shocked when he wrapped an arm around me and brought me closer. His face was still cold but his actions were warm.
My first thought was that he was tricking me into liking him. Then his warmth touched my heart and warmed my face.
Who is this Jong Suk?
