I woke in my bed feeling the familiar soft cotton sheets tucked around me. I sniffed faintly smelling the lavender dryer sheets we used.
Sighing I tossed myself to the side looking up at my silver alarm clock. The numbers flashed 4:05. I frowned. I had been out of commission for four hours. Interrupting my thoughts was a loud grumble from my stomach. Deciding that if I didn’t get food soon I would have to gnaw off my own arm, I stood and stumbled out into the hallway somehow finding myself in the kitchen.
I raided the pantry looking for something easy to eat that wouldn’t take any time to make. I snatched the first thing my eyes landed on.
Grinning like the Cheshire cat I walked to the table and sat. I bit into the gooey deliciousness of an Oreo pop tart. I heard footsteps and Alec appeared at the doorway looking disheveled and sleepy. I smirked at him while his sleep hazed eyes took in what I was eating. Three…two…one…
“LILLY! What the hell I told you that that pop tart was mine!” he whined near tears. I just laughed loudly looking him straight in the eye as I took another large bite.
I moaned at the goodness to rub it in his face. He growled at me and made a mad grab at the remaining pop tart. I snatched it out of reach before he could get it.
“Lillyana what have I told you about eating the last pop tart?” he said in a serious voice.
I giggled and shrugged.
He narrowed his eyes. “You must face consequences for your actions.” And with that he launched himself at me. Laughing hysterically I scrambled out of the way so he hit the chair full force. I danced around still eating as he rubbed his head. “Oh come on! It was my pop tart and you know it!” he whined like a baby not like the twenty-three year old he was.
I shrugged and nonchalantly finished the last bite. “Oh well its gone now.”
Before he could make up a comeback there was a loud knock at the door. I skipped to the living room, “I’ll get it!” I sang.
I opened the door with a bright smile that soon formed into a frown. “Cole.” I said coolly nodding my head curtly at him, my jovial mood ruined.
I had forgotten that I was assigned partners, for a math project, with Cole Richards also commonly known as Mr. Player—meathead—jerkface. Well at least to me. To everyone else he was the golden boy, what with his angelic looks and blonde hair he could easily pass as one of Gods messengers. More like a demon. I snickered in my head. He towered over me at 6’4, I could barely make out his features but I still saw the mocking smirk playing on his lips.
“Lillyana.” He said mocking my greeting with a curt nod.
I took a deep breath then swung the door open wider. “Please, do come in.” I hissed at him and promptly turned and walked back to the kitchen to inform my brother that we had a visitor.
“Alec!” I called. “Cole is over so we can work on our project!” I could feel his presence behind me as I entered the kitchen. My eyes landed on my brother who was currently eating a bag of cheese puffs. He looked up and I watched as his eyes narrowed at Cole who was standing behind me.
I begged him with my eyes not to say anything. He knew that Cole and his posse ran the school and made it their job to make my life a living hell. Well not so much Cole but it didn’t matter, he was their God. He let them ruin my high school life.
He glanced back at me then nodded. So with that I continued down the hall and to my room I entered and grabbed the stack of books and papers that we needed.
When I turned I nearly screamed. Cole stood there in the center of my room looking around at all of the posters and drawings I had up on the walls. He glanced at me then turned back to Mayday Parade poster. Uh-oh. I thought, here it comes.
