There's always something amazing about coming back to your hometown.
Whether it's the weather that you've missed so much, or the people that always made you feel homesick, or the food (for me, the food is definitely a big part.)
The plane touched down on Dortmund at around 12:45 AM and most of the time, I was just blindly swatting around at whoever tried to wake me up on the plane. After 5 minutes of grumbling, they finally hauled me off the plane.
I walked into the airport after making sure I looked at least decent - a long plane ride can do things to you, please don't judge me.
I tied my messy brown hair into a bun as I got my papers checked. I got my bags from baggage claim and I followed Anna and the rest of the crew out of the airport. Now, it was around 1 AM but there were still a few paparazzis waiting outside.
I groaned softly and grabbed some shades from my bag and put them on quickly. I know what some of the nosy and crazy journalists would write about me - 'Mia Bauer, hungover as she lands in Dortmund' when really I was just cranky from a nap and I didn't want flashes to blind me.
Security led me to the black car that would take me back home and they basically shoved me inside while trying to block away the paparazzi. I got in and huffed softly before leaning back against the leather seat.
"Hey, stranger."
I looked towards the driving seat to see my brother sitting there with a cheeky grin on his face. I squealed loudly and jumped forward, wrapping my arms around his neck tightly. "I've missed you!" I yelled.
He laughed and patted me on the head, "I missed you too, kiddo."
I grabbed my small bag and threw it into the passenger seat before jumping over to sit next to Alex. "I thought you were in Berlin." I said, staring at him with a small smirk on my face.
"I flew over just for you, kiddo! Aren't you glad?"
I nodded quickly, "Definitely."
"So, where to now?" he asked me as we left the airport. I haven't been in Dortmund for months, and the one thing that I'd really love to do right now is - go to a pub and get a decent pint of beer.
"The pub. The pub. Let's go to the pub. Right now." I said, grinning like a child hopped up on sugar.
"The pub? It's 1 in the morning, Mia." he laughed at me.
"Alex, I haven't been in Dortmund for months. Please, take me to the pub." I begged him.
He checked the time again before groaning, "Fine, fine. The pub it is then."

The usual pub that Alex and I went to was a little place close to my house. It had the best pretzels and snacks ever, and I could spend hours on end in this dark and dreary place.
Alex and I got out of the car and we made our way inside the pub. We sat down by the bar on the barstools and ordered a pint of beer for each of us. The bartender served us the drinks in a while and I sipped on the beverage quietly.
"So, how was tour?" Alex asked.
"Oh, it was great. I got to see so many amazing places, and meet so many great people. You should come with me on the next leg! You're on break, right?" I asked him. He grimaced a bit and shrugged, "Yeah, but Emily wants me to spend the holiday with her."
"Take her with you! I love Em." I grinned. Alex's face lit up as we started talking about his girlfriend. They've been together for about 2 years and a half, and this was most probably the longest relationship Alex has ever been in, which I was so happy about.
Alex began talking about Emily, his eyes shining and his smile prominent on his face as he rambled on about her.
"You really love her, don't you?"
He nodded, "It's just nice to have someone there for you every step of the way."
My smile faltered a little bit as I realized I don't have an Emily to my Alex anymore.
"That's good, then." I told him, changing the subject to something else. "It's always nice to have someone, especially if they're as nice as Em."
I was about to ask him about our parents when I heard a familiar laugh from the other side of the pub.
"And then, I told Thomas not to stand too close to the horse, but he was all 'I'm the horse expert here' and then the horse spat in his face!"
I slowly turned to see Marco, Mats, and Sven sitting in one of the tables. Marco was laughing, his grin spreading out on his face. His eyes squinted like they always did when he smiled or laughed, and the smile lines took their place under his eyes. His dimples indented on either sides of his cheeks, making my heart do flips.
Before any of them could notice me, I quickly turned back around.
"You okay? You look like you've seen a ghost," Alex muttered as he took a bite of his pretzel. "Yeah, something like that," I laughed nervously. I got off the stool and grabbed my phone from the table, "I need some air. I won't be too long, don't worry."
I left the bar without looking at Marco's table. I moved around the bar until I was standing in an alley between the pub and another store. It was totally empty, and the streetlights were lighting up the place.
It's been so long since I've seen Marco, and now seeing him so suddenly made me feel like I've just been run over by a truck.
He looked fine. In fact, he looked great. He looked like the classic happy Marco that everyone knew. He looked like the Marco I fell in love with before everything that happened to us.
He was happy again, and it even seemed like he forgot all about me while on the other hand, I was the one still caught up on him. I was still the one staying up at night thinking about him and what we used to be.
Not even two hours in Dortmund and I've already seen my ex boyfriend.
I turned around and began walking back towards the pub. I took a deep breath and reached for the door handle when it swung open before I could open it.
I took a few steps back to avoid getting smacked in the face.
My heart dropped when I saw Mats walking out the door. He had a big smile on his face as he talked to Sven, but it quickly dropped when he saw me.
"Mia?" he whispered in disbelief. "I didn't know you were back!" he said as he began to get excited. He quickly brought me into a tight hug, yelling 'welcome' in my ear. "I heard about your tour and how amazing it was!" he said as he let go of me.
I didn't get a chance to thank him before I was pulled into another hug by Sven. I laughed a little and wrapped my arms around him, "I missed you so much! You never text me anymore, Bauer," he scoffed. "You need to tell me everything, okay?"
"Yes, I promise." I smiled.
Sven let go of me and I awkwardly stood in front of Marco. He was staring at me stunned, his eyes wide as he analyzed every part of my face, as if trying to find out what's changed since the last time he saw me.
"You're home." he murmured softly.
I nodded slowly.
Before I could get a chance to figure out what I should say to him, he had already pulled me into a hug.
