The lunch bell rings and I walk out of the classroom, heading to the canteen fast before the whole school get there.
"Ava!" I hear a voice shout. I spin around to see my best friend, Beth, run towards me and join the queue. "Hey babycakes!" I laughed. We have always had little pet names for one another, hers being babycakes and mine being sweet cheeks.
I grabbed a couple of sandwiches and left the canteen, handing her one.
"What are you up to after school tonight? You never come out any more!" She asked, making me feel slightly guilty, but the same time I actually wanted to pass school, unlike her and all of out other friends.
"Ah, tonight's not a good night, I have to complete a chemistry project so until I finish it, I can't come out. Sorry boo!" I apologised. She nodded, "it's fine! Call me when you've finished with it and we can have a nice girly sleepover!"
I agreed and left as the bell rang, signifying the start of 4th period; chemistry.
I sat down, noticing that Harry wasn't in just yet, which confused me because normally he was there before the bell goes.
The lesson began, and Harry still wasn't in.
It was another half hour before the door creaked open slowly and a scared Harry stepped in.
"I'm so sorry I'm late, sir. Please forgive me!" He pleaded. Mr Wilson nodded and pointed towards Harry's seat.
He walked over to me and took a seat, smiling slightly and looking away.
"Hey, you okay?" I asked, concerned.
"Yeah" he smiled, "still on for tonight?" I nodded, "yeah of course!"
"Okay good."
----
The doorbell rang and I jumped off of my bed and ran to get the door, knowing it was Harry.
"H-hi Ava." Harry stuttered. I waved and let him in. He followed me into the kitchen and I made both of us a strawberry milkshake.
"How was your day?" I asked Harry. He groaned, "boring. Miss Williams was being horrible to everyone 2nd period and then there was the embarrassment of chemistry.
"Oh yeah, why were you late?" I asked.
"The, um, principle wanted to speak to me." Harry told me, intriguing me, because why would the principle want Harry? Did he do something wrong? "What did he want?" I asked."H-he I'm told me that I'm this years' valedictorian." He grinned widely. I never noticed how straight his teeth was before now.
"Oh my god Harry that's amazing! Well done!" I screamed happily and walked over to him, giving him a hug.
You could tell he hasn't hugged many people before because he froze and didn't really hug back.
I let him go and dragged him to my bedroom. (A/N: NOT LIKE THAT YA NASTY) I grabbed our revision books and set them out on my bed whilst crossing my legs.
We spent a good hour working on our project, until we reached the part where we had to calculate the mass of something I can't remember, I froze.
"Ava do you not understand this?" He asked. I shook my head and looked down. "Don't worry. Here, let's go through it together."
He explained how to calculate the relative formula mass of an atom, helping me when I messed up.
It wasn't until I unfocused for split second and looked up at him that I realised just how close we were sat, him noticing too as he leaned back a bit.
"Harry can I ask you something?" I asked. He nodded. "Have you...ever...kissed someone?" His eyes widened at my question and shook his head profusely.
I moved closer to him; watching him gulp, and looked into his eyes.
"And why's that?" I playfully taunted. Harry shrugged, "because nobody liked me. I have no friends." He looked down sadly. "Hey, Sure you do! I'm your friend, aren't i?" I smiled, lifting his chin up with my index finger so he looked straight into my eyes. "Y-yeah, I guess." He stuttered.
I kept staring into his eyes, noticing how they were a beautiful forest green colour, and I found myself leaning closer and closer to his lips.
I could see his gaze flicker between my eyes and lips, making me lick my lips teasingly.
We were mere inches apart when there was a loud knock at the door. We sprung apart and snapped our heads towards the door, just in time before the door swung open.
"Hi Harry! Ava! Dinners almost ready, so maybe draw the session to a close? Love you!" My mother smiled, not knowing what had just happened. Or nearly happened, should I say.
My mother left the room and shut the door behind her, leaving me and Harry sat there awkwardly.
"I-I um, uh..." I stuttered. "Sorry." Harry blushed. "I-I think I'm going to go now. Thank you for having again." He said awkwardly.
"O-okay." I was still in a daze.
Harry muttered a small "goodbye" before leaving my room. I heard him thank my mother downstairs and then the front door shut.
I sighed loudly and laid down on my bed.
What the hell is going on? Why did I nearly kiss him? And why did mum have to come in and ruin it?
Ugh.
