Chapter 34 - The Epilogue

Epilogue

"Daddy!! Papa!!!" The little blond haired girl ran out of the door from her first day of kindergarten, her face so bright with excitement that the two men knew it had gone well.

"How was school peanut?" Her Daddy asked, crouching down to her height while her Papa stood with a broad smile. Daddy gave her a hug and a kiss before leaning back again to hear about her day.

"It was Awwwwesome Daddy!" Paisley cheered, literally, as she fist pumped in the air. A gesture she'd learned from her Uncle Benji. "Mrs. Walkew is weally nice," she added, referring to her new teacher and still having a little trouble saying her r's. "We played games...and...we dwew pictews..." She handed her Daddy the picture she had drawn before she turned to her Papa reaching her hands up and doing the hand grab gesture she'd been doing ever since she was a baby. It was her signal that she wanted to be picked up for a hug. Of course her Papa didn't hesitate a moment before lifting her up and giving her sloppy kisses all over her face which made her giggle. The girl wrapped her small arms around her Papa's neck and hugged him so tightly that he nearly couldn't breathe. But he didn't care. He loved the way his daughter expressed herself in everything she did. She did everything with enthusiasm and a keen purpose.

"Can we go see Tuckew now Papa? You said we could visit Tuckew aftew school!"

"Yes darling, we can go see Tucker," he laughed.

"Yay!!" She cheered, excited to tell her younger cousin all about her first day of school.

"Ajax said he'd leave work early and meet us at their house. We can have a little family celebration of Paisley's first day at school," Nico said, looking over at Finn. "Some swimming and then a barbeque later for dinner?"

"That sounds perfect. I kept the afternoon free for family time since it's such a big day," Finn agreed.

On the drive to her cousin and two Uncles' house, Paisley told her fathers everything that happened at school. From her new friends Madison, Jackson and Max who shared a table with her for crafts, to story time, snack, first recess, nap/quiet time, to lunch and second recess. Her fathers listened attentively and asked questions at the right times.

Paisley's school was only a few minutes from where Uncle Ajax and Uncle Benji lived with their son Tucker, (who would shortly turn 3), only a short walk from the house where Paisley and her fathers lived. Since they already had bathing suits and anything else they might need in the pool house at Uncles Benji and Ajax, the family of three didn't need to stop at home to pick anything up so 5 minutes later they were pulling into the famililar circular driveway.

Nico saw that both Ajax and Benji's cars were in the driveway and a third car owned by the children's grandmother Lucy.

"Paithley! Paithley!" A little voice with a sweet lisp called out as they were climbing out of the car and they turned to see that the front door had just opened. Tucker and Benji stood smiling. When his son looked up Benji nodded and he came running down the steps to greet his cousin and best friend.

Tucker had dark hair and blue eyes. With his baby face it was hard to tell exactly who he looked like. Did he have Benji's blue eyes? Was his natural tan skin just a lighter shade of Ajax's? The dark hair could be from either. Nobody was sure, but no one really cared.

After they were married and decided they wanted a child, they began discussions on how. After finding a surrogate, they approached an 'egg bank', being advised that this might be a better method than using the surrogate's eggs. Ajax and Benji chose an egg donor who had a Latino father and a blond haired, blue eyed mother. When deciding who should be the biological father, Benji had a "great idea". He wanted their sperm mixed together. He said it would be symbolic of how a man and a woman make a child together. (Or at least he saw it that way in his own head).
