Colours Shine On

Faces blur into colours of brown and pale and black and cool until the moment of clarity when I see the bright cosmos shining. The rain pouring down on me with an effort worthy of an A+ grade suddenly stops, leaving me dripping small diamonds onto the floor made of clouds. The hazy mist in my brain detours for a few clear moments, and the shadowy corners are brightened by the stars illuminating your soul. The blur of brown and pale and black and cool continue on without my empty head following in mindless behaviours taught to us since our days as youth, and deeply beautiful eyes meet depressingly tired eyes. Your colours lit the world on fire through only a gaze my way; your colours lit the world on fire.

The red of your rainbow is bowing down to the other colours, but it should be the brightest. It's light, close to the pink of romance and friendship, but not quite- instead it is pastel blood bleeding through the holes in your happiness. The passion has disappeared with the torrent of rain from my black thunder storm. I've never been a rainbow like you.

Your gold leaks past the other colours in ribbons of wisdom weaving their way to the front of the pack where they belong. You've always had too much gold for a rainbow, but being with golden streaks throughout the already gorgeous colours of life only makes pretty things prettier. I can tell from the gold streaking tears down your rosy cheeks that I have no gold in me. I've never been a rainbow like you.

The yellow tints your aqua in a fascinating collage mapping out your everlasting importance in the world. Aqua has always been my favourite colour: one of protection and emotional healing. Your aqua is coated with the yellow of joy in the methods you use to remain a powerful black. My aqua is misty with the gloom of purple flowers wilting in the neverending showers of lightning. I've never been a rainbow like you. My colours will never light the world on fire. You, however- you are special with your red, and gold, and yellow, and aqua. You will never stop giving ones like me a reason; you will never stop giving ones like me hope of becoming a rainbow; you will never stop giving ones like me everything you are and everything we are not; you will never stop giving ones like me your colours until you're as dim as I am. Don't ever give away your rainbow. Please, I beg of you: shine on.
