GOTHAM CEMETERY - August 21st

3:00PM

Today, was the day the whole world mourned.

Today, was the day that the world had lost two of their finest heroes.

Today, was the day the invincible Justice League had truly felt vulnerable.

In both Gotham City and Chicago, everyone took to the streets to attend the funeral of Batman and Martian Manhunter.

The whole of the Gotham Cemetery alone had such a long line of mourners, the line stretched back as far as the town center. All who had come from all over the city, to pay their respects to the fallen Dark Knight.

At the front of these lines, were the countless superheroes from all across the planet, their brilliant, radiating uniforms changed black with their stealth tech, as they marched behind the pallbearers of Batman's coffin:

Wonder Woman, who had discarded her sword and shield, for the first time in her life, to keep the vow of peace in Batman's vigil.

The Green Lanterns, who had forsaken a critical mission from the Guardians of Oa themselves to be here today.

Captain Marvel, who had missed a whole week of school to make the funeral preparations. Even with the strength of Hercules, he was barely able to stop crying.

Superman, the Man of Steel, now more fragile than anyone on the Earth today.

And of course, the Young Justice, who despite being here as a team, respectfully kept their distance from the barely consolable Dick, who had traded his costume for a simple, black and white suit.

When they had finally reached the grave, the heroes put down Batman's coffin and all took a seat on the cold, black chairs just three metres away as Commissioner Gordon stood up on the podium.

"Today," he said into the microphone. "is not only the day we lay to rest a hero, but the day we a friend, mentor and saviour, a man who will live on through his legacy.."

The words of Commissioner Gordon's eulogy faded into obscurity as the Team looked towards Robin, who cried quietly, not breaking his gaze from the coffin for hours.

Zatanna gently slid her white, gloved hand into his and gently squeezed it.

His hand felt so fragile. So lifeless.

"I still can't believe that he's gone..." he sobbed.

He leaned over onto her shoulder, still not taking his gaze from Batman's coffin.

"The Bat Cave is destroyed..." he muttered sadly. "Alfred has gone back to England, I still don't know how we're going to cover up Batman's connection to Wayne Enterprises..."

He sniffed and turned his forehead onto her shoulder.

"Why Zatanna..?" he cried. "Why would Desmond do this?!"

Zatanna leaned her head onto his.
"I don't know, Dick..." she whispered. "I don't know..."

That was the worst part, the fact that all this misery had been caused by someone they knew. Someone they thought of as a friend. Someone they loved.

"It doesn't matter..." Connor growled under his breath. "Desmond will pay for what he's done..."

He scowled so angrily, it looked as though the skin on his forehead might tear.

"I'll never forgive for what he put Megan through..."

Dick looked at Connor, almost guiltily. He was crying and mourning as if he was the only one who had lost someone, but his loss was non-existent compared to Megan's.
