This is set in the Mark Of Athena when Percy and Annabeth are reunited after Percy's been at Camp Jupiter.

As the warship advanced towards New Rome, Percy became more and more agitated. Annabeth was inside that ship, the one person he'd remembered from his past. His mind was swimming with all of the things he wanted to say to her, "I'm sorry; Did you miss me..." but at the end, he always landed on one thing: "I love you." After all that he'd put her through, after all that he knew about her, that was the one thing that he wanted to tell her. In his mind, those three words explained everything, from how sorry he was to how much he'd missed her. However, there was the inevitable doubt that came with his nerves, and the two opposing emotions made Percy want to scream in frustration.

What if she hadn't really cared what happened to him at all? What if he'd made her so angry that she broke up with him? Or if he had got it all wrong and Annabeth wasn't actually his girlfriend? Or, worst of all, what if Annabeth wasn't even on that ship, and he never gets to see her after all?

Don't be an idiot, he told himself. Of course she was on the ship, Tyson had said it himself. The butterflies subsided, and he decided to make small conversation with Frank and... Hazel. What would Annabeth think of her? Percy would've liked to say that Annabeth wasn't the type to get jealous easily, but he remembered how mad she was over Rachel, how envious she'd been over Calypso. He scolded himself again; Annabeth was smart, so she'd quickly figure out that Hazel was only as much as a sister to him, and ( at least he hoped so) Frank's girlfriend.

"Percy? Are you even listening?"

"Truthfully? No," he admitted. Hazel sighed and put an arm around him.

"Your girlfriend?" she guessed. Percy nodded.

"She's on that ship. But what if..." he trailed off, his mind racing with the negative possibilities.

"What?" Frank asked. "If she doesn't want anything to do with you? If she just uses you as an excuse to come here and instead attacks New Rome because she doesn't care about you at all? Is that what you're thinking?"

It sounded dumb, now that Frank had said it, but the doubts were still there.

"It's just... its been about seven months. Eight months, maybe, without seeing her, contacting her, speaking to her. I mean, a lot can change in that amount of time, you know?"

"True. I mean, it does depend on the girl; some can keep faith, some can't. Tell us about her," Frank said.

"Well," Percy said, "Annabeth's been my best friend since we were twelve. She's come with me on every quest, from when I first met her and we went to retrieve Zeus' - Jupiter's - lightning bolt to last summer, in the Battle of Manhattan. We hated each other to begin with, but we always fought side by side after we'd set aside our differences. I-uh-one time, I travelled across America to go save her from the titan Atlas, which is what I was remembering when we sailed past The Golden Gate Bridge," he checked to see if his friends were still listening, which they were. Hazel had her hand on her chest like she was looking at an adorable puppy or something, and Frank, the big softie, was smiling and stealing glances at Hazel, probably yearning for a similar relationship with her.

Percy then went on to talk about what she looked like - her honey blonde hair and stormy grey eyes, and how she'd kissed him on his 16th birthday, and the whole you drool when you sleep malarkey. The pair laughed at that, and at all of the other Annabeth-related anecdotes that he told. He hadn't even realised how much his mood had lifted, or noticed how quickly time had passed. That was, however, until he noticed the four teenagers descending from the ladder.

Oh, Annabeth was there. She was there, in the flesh, in all her beauty and amazingness. His heart plummeted. Her blonde hair surrounded her face just as he'd remembered, her grey eyes as breathtakingly terrifying as a raging storm. She was still the same height as before, which meant that he was now noticeably taller, but she seemed even more athletic than she'd been before. Yeah, he thought, she's definitely mine.

Reyna started to say something, but a sudden urge tugged at his gut, and he lunged forward, noticing Annabeth doing the same. They kissed, and for a moment, he forgot everything. The crowds grew silent, but a nuclear bomb could've exploded right in front of them for all Percy cared. His lips against hers felt like home, and that was more important than anything.

"Jeez, Annabeth, I never thought-" he was struggling to form an actual sentence, let alone say what he had been thinking about telling her, but it didn't matter anyway. He couldn't comprehend what happened next. Annabeth judo flipped him, and the next thing he knew, his girlfriend was kneeling on top of him, a fierce look in her eyes.

"If you ever leave me like that again, Seaweed Brain, I swear to all the gods-" something inside him told him to laugh. He did, and Annabeth relaxed a little.

"Consider me warned," he grinned. "I missed you too."

She smiled and helped him to stand, and he could tell that she was suppressing the urge to kiss him again; he was doing the same. Reyna started talking again, but Percy wasn't the least interested in what she had to say. He had Annabeth back, and for the moment, nothing much else mattered.
