Chapter 3: Saturday Night Dinner
The doorbell rung and Alex Cabot jumped up to go get the door Finn and Munch were already here which meant that it was Casey and Elliot that were at the door. Even though this was just another typical saturday night dinner with the squad she still felt extremely worried. Not everyone was exactly able to adjust well to how Livia acted, especially at dinner parties. This was because Jocelyn had all these strange rules about how Livia and Mitsuri could act whe n guests came over. Mitsuri had pretty quickly been able to shake such habits since she was such a talker, but Livia on the other hand still, except for a few, followed all of Jocelyn’s rules. Alex opened the door and saw Elliot and Casey standing in the doorway.
“ Hey you guys Finn and Munch are already here, and they got the game on in the living room” Alex said. Elliot stepped in and said
“damn does it smell good in here, what are the girls cooking in there”
“ I know right, all they told me was that they were preparing a special meal for a special geust” Alex said Gesturing towards Casey. Elliot, Casey and Alex proceeded to the living room. They watched the game for a while. When all of a sudden Mitsuri came out of the kitchen and said “alright every body dinners ready” so then everybody continued on to the dining room and took their seats. Casey noticed that there were only 7 places set at the table. So she quiet confused said
“wheres the 8th table setting?”. She looked cautiously around at everybody getting some awkward looks. No one really wanting to say why there were only 7 table settings. But finally after a long pause Finn spoke up and said “ Umm... Livia kinda a....a.. prefers to eat.....uh... on the floor next to Alex.”
“ Oh come on that is crazy is she really that messed up.” Casey said. All of sudden with a little but more than intended annoyed snippiness in her voice, and Alex said “ Yes. Casey she is that messed up, and if you really must know her last mistress was very strict about what Livia can and can’t do, and now it makes her extremely uncomfortable when someone makes her act well...normal.”
“I see, I geuss I didn’t think of it that way.” said Casey, but Casey wasn’t okay she was appalled at how everyone was acting especially at how Olivia was acting.
But then Livia and Mitsuri walked into the room carrying plates heaped with food they silently, another one of Jocelyn's rules, served everyone and after they were seated Livia walked over and kneeled down next to Alex. She liked it like this Mrs. Alex had asked her many times if she wanted to sit at the table and even though she now sat at the table at Elliot’s she still felt uncomfortable and she liked falling into her place as Mrs. Alex’s perfect pet. It would have been what Mistress Jocelyn would have wanted. She was hungry though and she proceeded eat happy that she didn’t have the stress of having to use silverware. She was listening to Mrs. Alex talk about work which always stresses her out. And not to much surprise Livia felt her mistress’ hand slide down her head and get slowly tangled in her hair. She always loved it when Mrs. Alex would pat her, she didn’t have the same touch as Mistress Jocelyn, but Alex was the closest thing to her.
Casey was trying her hardest to act natural. Her and Alex talked some about work and they made a couple of jokes but no matter what they were saying Casey wasn’t able to take her mind of off Livia. She was already a little enraged by the fact of how everyone was acting and treating Olivia.
Casey looked over at Alex’s end of the table. Even though Casey was trying to ignore the fact that Alex was petting Livia like a pampered pet, the one thing that drew the line was when Alex ripped of a piece of meat from her plate and then fed to Livia like she was a dog. That was the last straw for Casey she just couldn’t stand what was happening to the woman she had secretly always had a little bit of a crush on. She just erupted.
“ Alex, are you serious; she is not a fucking dog! She is a human being! I...I just can’t take it any more, and I don’t care who tells me otherwise, but this can’t be friggin helping her.” A face of true terror crossed Livia’s face. She hated it when people yelled. She wanted to cry, she wanted to scream, but two years of strict discipline, torture, and beating with Jocelyn had taught her never to cry or speak unless spoken to. Since Mrs. Alex was always so good at the reading Livia’s face though, she knew immediately that Livia was uncomfortable,
“ Mitsuri, why don’t you take Livia in and start getting her ready for bed, and I will be in a minute” she said with as much control as she could muster. Livia and Mitsuri slowly rose, never in thier memory could they recall Alex ever getting this flustered. Once they had left the room the volume of speak rose, but they couldn’t understand what they were saying because it was muffled by the door to the bedroom.
“ What the Hell Casey, are you serous, what in the hell is the matter with you?”
“ What’s the matter with me, whats the matter with YOU, if I didn’t know better I would say your making her worse not better.”
“Are you fucking kidding me?! If anything it’s you who’s making it worse! I mean who’s the one who pays the doctor bills, who’s the one who pays for the cat scans, and analysts, and behavioral lessons. If anything I’ve done the most for her!”
“ And for what so she can be your god damn Chihuahua, I don’t know if you’ve noticed or anything but she’s a person not a dog! Pfft, maybe your not as open with it as the last lady, but you are basically just the same, the same sick bitch.”
“How dare you! I am nothing like that lady and I resent her entirely for what she did to Livia. You know what? I think it’s time for you to leave.”
“Fine, whatever, but you know it’s true.”
