Chapter 7: An Advantage
“Stabler” Elliot answered he was nervous he saw that it was Livia’s school on the caller ID. It was always nerve racking to get calls from Livia’s school, they sent to her to a special school in Brooklyn for adults who suffered brain damage due to traumatic experiences or mental issues in their life. usually when the school called it was just because Livia had had a flashback or something triggered something and she needed to see familiar faces in order to calm down. “ What is it” Elliot spoke trying to sound as calm as possible. He could hear panic in the headmistress’ voice as she responded,
“ Well there has been a little incident and Livia needs to be picked up...”
“Did she have another flashback” Elliot questioned.
“No, ummm... well..... she was assaulted during recess.”
“What the hell! we send her to that school so that she can be safe I mean how can you let this happen, I mean don’t you have people watching them! this is just great I will be right there and I’m bringing Mrs. Cabot as well.”
“Oh no I don’t think that that’s really necessary.” but it was already to late Elliot had hung up and was headed out the door.
“I can’t believe they let this happen I mean, this happened to her to many times, I thought I could protect her you know give her a little consistency.”
“Alex it’s alright believe me when I’m done with them, this won’t happen again.” They were almost to the principles office at Livia’s school. As they reached the door and entered Mrs. Norberg’s office they saw Mrs. Norberg talking angrily to someone on the phone and Livia sitting in one of Chairs crying.
“Oh honey are you all right, this is never happening to you again understand.” Alex exclaimed.
“ Mrs. Alex,” Livia ran up and gave Alex a hug “ I’m so sorry you always say to be safe with strangers but I was playing hide and seek and hiding behind the shed and that gross gardner came up behind me and... and he said that he had a puppy behind the school wall, but I had to be very quiet so that the recess monitor wouldn’t see us, and then when we where out of sight he grabbed me and threw me on the ground and did it, I was so scared I thought he was going to bring me back to the traffickers and... and.. he was so creepy and kept saying that we were in love and that I had an innocent mind but an adult body he was so scary.” Livia was sobbing now.
“Oh, precious your okay its gonna be okay that man is going to go to jail for a very long time and he’s never going to hurt you or anyone else ever again.” Elliot was watching the whole scene unfold in front of him.
“Alex, Livia, would you please give me and Mrs. Norberg some privacy.”
“El, please don’t do anything stupid, please.” Alex said as her and Livia were walking out the door. When the door shut Mrs. Norberg turned to Elliot with a very terrified look on her face. “Now Mrs. Norberg I’m not planing on yelling at you I just want to get a better understanding of what happened here and I wan’t to feel safe that it will never happen again, now that women has the mind of a 7 year old and the body of a Victoria’s Secret model, now that is a dangerous combination and I want to feel safe sending her here,”
“Yes, and Mr. Fields was fired this morning and some detectives from the brooklyn SVU came to speak with Livia and some of her friends.”
“Well I guess thats all I wanted to know I think we’re going to keep her home tomorrow you know to recover from this.” and with that he left. When he got out into the hall a little ways down he saw Alex hugging Livia and stroking her hair but he also noticed at the other end of the hall one of Livia’s freinds that had been over to Alex’s house a couple of times, now what was her name again..... ahhh yes Katie and she had down syndrome or something like that.
“ Hey ah Katie right, I’m a police officer.” Elliot said flashing her his badge. “and I’m also friends with your friend Livia, now I know that you talked to some other detectives this morning but it would be very helpfull if you could help me clearer understanding of some things”
“Who’s that hugging Livia over there, is it her mom.”
“ ummm... well sorta she’s she’s.”
“Her owner.”
“Yes. wait no ehhh sort of, how did you know that?”
“Livia talks about her a lot she ses that she’s a pet and that some blonde lady named Alex owns her.”
“ Well Alex doesn’t own her she takes care of Livia, like your gramma takes care of you, but would you please just answer the question it would be really helpful.”
“Oh yah right, The gardner is really weird, when ever he sees us playing he always goes and talks to Livia, he’s always telling her how pretty she is and that she needs someone to protect her, but she doesn’t like it and she says it makes her feel really weird.”
“ Did he ever touch Livia?’
“Yah he always puts his arm around her shoulders, and once he put his hand in between her legs, it really up set her and she started crying.” After Elliot was done taking his notes he walked down the hall to where Alex and Livia were waiting
“ Why where you talking to Katie? Elliot”
“ She just wanted to know if you were okay.” Elliot said with an uneasy look on is face. “ Livia, ummm do you ever talk about Alex or Jocelyn at school.”
“ Yeah, in therapy.”
“ but do you ever talk about her with your freinds.”
“ Only once or twice, but it was because they asked.”
“ Well.. don’t talk about it at school anymore alright.” He was just expecting Livia to nod her head and obey like she allays did but instead he was shocked to get a slightly angst answer from livia.
“ It’s because your embarrassed aren’t you.”
“ No Livia, it’s just some people don’t really understand things the way that we do, and well I just don’t wan’t someone to say something that might hurt your feelings .”
“Like the lady at the precinct.” Livia said looking down at her feet.
“ Exactly.” he lifted her chin up with his hand so that she would look at his face. “ I love you Livia, and I don’t want anything to happen to you.” He missed his partner so much more than anything in the entire world the, he missed there inside jokes, pulling all nighters to work on a case, crashing on her couch when Kathy kicked him out. He knew that Alex would kill him for even thinking this but he hated Livia she was girly, dependent, emotional, and kind of stupid everything that Olivia prided herself on not being, and that he admired her so much for. He looked down at Livia who had decided to sit on the ground and was now holding Alex’s leg crying, and Alex was trying to coax her off so that she could go talk to the principle again. When she finally got her off Livia just crumpled to the ground and lay down crying like dog. That was what she was really, a dog, just some pampered dog that was living in Olivia’s body that was really what this was, someone had broken another human being so bad that they didn’t even consider them self a human being any more. Thats when he got mad Elliot always got mad when he thought about what they must have done to Olivia. When and if they ever found the people that did this to her he would sure as hell show them literally what it meant to “break a bitch.”
