Falling.
Tumbling.
Screaming.
Screaming so loud yet nothing comes out.
Landing with a thud.
But yet still nothing is heard.
Smoke collects the pitch black room.
A shiny light glows from afar.
Running.
Running.
Running.
Almost there.
So close.
Just a little bit farther.
Wake up.
Nick sat up suddenly, breathing heavily. He'd been having that same nightmare since he was 9.
You'd think he'd be used to it, but it seems every time he has it, it gets even worse.
He'd never gotten to the light. What could it mean?
Shaking his head, Nick got out of bed and started getting ready for school. 'Just ignore it Nick, it's just a dream'.
Just a dream. Yeah, sure.
He walked downstairs and the smell of pancakes filled the air. Nick sat down and immediately started eating.
"Good morning." His mom said.
Through all the pancakes, he managed a mumble that was close enough to 'morning!'.
With a chuckle and an eye roll, his mom sipped her coffee.
Somehow swallowing without choking, Nick got his backpack and ran to the door.
He saluted and ran out to the bus stop.
As usual he was the first one there and climbed aboard quickly when the bus arrived. He greeted Marge and sat down behind her.
Ah, a nice, empty, bus.
"Hi!" Said a cheery voice from next to him.
Startled, Nick jumped a bit, then looked and saw it was the girl from yesterday.
"Hi...Addison..?" He said slowly, not wanting to offend her. Happy Addison didn't seem angry he continued talking. "Uhm, h-how did you get here before me? I'm always the first one here."
"Oh, well I just moved here a few days ago." She responded. "The bus stop nearest to my house is before yours."
Nick wasn't sure if he liked this new news but, not wanting to be rude, didn't say anything.
"So, you're new at Chestnut High?"
"Yep!"
Though feeling like he would regret it, Nick decided to be nice. "Oh, I could give you a tour if you want."
"Really?!" Addison's face brightened. "I'd love that! Thanks!"
They both smiled at each other as the last kid got on and off the bus went.
'Could this be a new friend?' Nick thought. 'I guess I'll just have to wait and see if she'll be able to hang out with a freak like me...'
