Delia woke up and stretched. She groaned as she glanced over at her clock. 6:20 am. It was the first day of school and she was definitely not ready. Delia swung her legs over the edge of her queen-sized bed and her bare feet landed on the cold hardwood floor. "Ahhh!" Delia yelped. She quickly threw on some socks and sat down in front of her large mirror to do her makeup and hair.

As she padded into the kitchen, Delia's mom cheerfully said, "Are you excited for the first day of school sweetie?" Delia rolled her eyes. Her mom was really happy about sending her off to high school and Delia was pretty sure that her mom was more nervous about her going to high school than she was. She had gone to an all-girl school her whole life so this would be a big change since she was going to a co-ed school for her junior and senior years. It just happened to be the same school that her best friend Asher was attending.

Delia and Asher had been best friends for as long as she could remember. He had always been really popular and had been the quarterback on his middle school football team and now was the quarterback on the varsity football team at Liberty Public High School. She on the other hand had always been more on the artsy side and loved drawing, photography, and writing.

Asher had texted her the night before and told her that he would drive her to school on most days so that she could save gas and he would show her around the school a little bit and introduce her to some of his friends. He was supposed to show up at her house in about 10 minutes so Delia quickly inhaled her orange juice and english muffin and ran upstairs to finish getting ready.

"Beep beep!"

Asher's blue jeep sat outside of Delia's huge two story house in the driveway. She flew out of the door as her mom waved goodbye from the doorway and waved to Asher. He waved back and Delia jumped into the car. "How are ya'?" asked Asher.

"Nervous."

"Why am I not surprised?" Asher laughed and shook his head. He put the car into reverse and carefully backed out of the driveway. He sped down the street and Delia turned up the radio. If there was anything that they had in common, it would have to be their love for the same kind of music. 'Yeah 3x' by Chris Brown blasted from the speakers, the bass was on high, and they started their ritual karaoke car session.

As they pulled into the school parking lot, some of Asher's friends waved and shouted at him. Delia just laughed and looked over at Asher who had a big grin on his face. He whipped into a parking space near the building and got out of the Jeep. He grabbed his black backpack from the backseat and waited for Delia by the trunk of the car. As Delia got out she couldn't help but feel butterflies in her stomach but she grabbed her blue tribal print backpack that sat on the leather seat in the back and walked into school with Asher.

When they walked into the building, Asher showed her where her locker was and said that he had to go put his duffel bag in the locker room by the gym. Delia nodded for him to leave and he disappeared into the crowds of girls and guys swarming the hallway. She opened her bright red locker with the number 450 printed on a silver plaque on the top of her locker door. It was a pretty basic locker and she threw some of her black binders onto the foldable shelf that she had set into the bottom of her locker.

She closed the metal locker and looked around for Asher. She even walked down the hallway a little bit but she didn't see him anywhere. Delia jumped a little as the bell rang signaling that everyone should make their way to their homeroom classes to get signed in. She was disappointed that Asher hadn't showed up but figured that she would at least see him at lunch or something like that.

First hour, Delia had her math class. It was really boring but nothing very exciting happened. Second hour came around and Delia found herself in her English class. When she walked into the room, there were about 25 desks in the room and about 20 of them were occupied by various people. She found an open desk next to a really pretty girl who glared at her as she sat down.

"Hey what's your name?" Delia asked the girl timidly.

"Brittany."

The girl rolled her eyes and gave Delia the bitchiest look she had ever seen and then proceeded to turn around and talk to some of the other girls sitting near her. Delia was shocked. She had not expected to be treated this way on the first day at her new school but apparently it was meant to be. She wasn't completely surprised at her luck but she sat there blushing and texted Asher, 'where were you earlier???'.

As the day went on, she didn't see Asher at all like he had promised she would and no replies appeared on her iPhone either. The day dragged by and she didn't even see Asher at lunch in the cafeteria so she ended up sitting by herself. He was her ride home so after school was over, she slowly walked over to the Jeep that was waiting in the parking lot. Asher sat in the driver's side but he wasn't alone. A girl sat in the passenger seat and they were in a hot makeout session. Delia awkwardly stood at the back of the car for a good 5 minutes but she wanted to just get home so she marched over to Asher's window and knocked loudly on it.

He quickly stopped kissing the girl and whipped his head around to see who was interrupting his hot makeout sesh. His eyes got wide as he realized it was Delia and said something to the girl in the passenger seat. Delia didn't get a good look at her face but the girl scooted out of the car and speed walked away from them.

Delia angrily got into the car and stared straight ahead out the front window.

"Take me home. Now." she demanded.

"Delia I can expl-"

"Just leave."

Appearing to be obviously embarrassed and upset, Ash drove Delia home in silence. When they got to her house, she didn't say a word as she got out and stormed into the house. As soon as she got into her bedroom, she started to cry. Thoughts of Asher kissing the mystery girl kept running around in her mind and she dug out her journal to try and calm herself down. She angrily wrote out all of her feelings, slammed the journal shut.

Delia sat there for a few minutes trying to clear her mind but the moment of silence was interrupted by the familiar ringtone that she only had set for when Asher called. A picture of the two of them appeared on her phone screen and she slammed her finger down onto the red 'end' button and another few tears slipped out of her eyes.
