"If you could have any superpower, what would it be?"
Every person has a different answer to this question. There's a never ending list of powers to choose from, with a list of reasons to match. Flight enables easy travel. Breathing underwater enables someone to see the world underwater without the clutter of scuba gear. Laser vision...well, it looks cool when Superman uses it.
I, however, didn't get a choice. I was gifted with invisibility, and it's hardly something I'd call "super".
No, I'm not the child of Superman and Wonder Woman. (I wish...)No, I'm just an ordinary girl with a talent for not being seen. For as long as I can remember I've slipped through the cracks.
Perhaps it started when the label of "middle child" was dropped on my shoulders and everything that came with it: all of the chores of the older child and none of the special perks; all of the "immaturity" of being a younger child and none of the favoritism.
I don't think fondly of my place in my family. But wasn't that obvious before?
Whenever it started, my words lost their value. Questions were left unanswered, pleas ignored. It was like I'd suddenly lost all value by being sandwiched between two other children.
When I was younger, I didn't quite understand this. "Mommy," I'd ask, "Can I get this?" I'd display my latest want...no, need: a teddy bear, a notebook to replace the one I'd already filled, the odd candy bar or two from the grocery store.
And, every time, the answer would be the same.
"Maybe next time, Paige."
I'd receive a pat on the head and instructions to put back whatever I was holding.
Invisibility may be a superpower to some, but to me it's anything but super. Instead of praying for no one to see me, I'd hope that someone could beat that curse. And, for 14 long years, my wish went unanswered.
Then, someone did. And it was more of an adventure than I could ever have hoped for.
This is that story. But wasn't that obvious before?

So I've decided to rewrite this old thing! Cause...why not?
Maybe I can write it all the way through this time. I seem to have trouble doing that...Wish me luck, everyone! XD
