Parties have never been my thing. I've always hated the blaring music and flashing lights. That was one kind of party. The kind of party i'm at is more calm, but the lights were still bright and the music still played. I didn't like either kind.

I was forced to participate in this party by my mom. She thought it was important for me to see old friends or meet new people. I thought it was useless, even if it was my own house the party was at.

So I stood by a tree in the backyard, where the music wasn't as loud. I was wearing a pair of black skinny jeans and a dark blue, long sleeved shirt that revealed my shoulders and the straps of my black tank top. I slid down the trunk of the tree and sat with my back against it. I had my sketchpad with me and I was drawing a tree that was in front of me. My black hair would get in my eyes now and then, I would just reach up and quickly brush it aside.

As I sat there a boy that looked about my age (17) walked up to me. He had turquoise eyes, peanut colored hair, and a huge smile plastered on his face. I ignored him at first, thinking he would just go away, but when he came closer and stood in front of me I had to look up. His smile only got bigger, even though I made sure to keep my eyes covered. They were a weird, rare color - purple. Very few people had purple, red, orange, or grey eyes, there were even more people with yellow eyes than purple.

"Hi" he said rather loudly, I only stared at him. "I'm Hattori Yuudai!" he said, beaming. I only watched him. "What's your name?" he asked after some time, being more quiet.

"Kawamura Naoki" was all I said. I then looked back down and continued drawing.

"Whoa!" he exclaimed when he saw my sketch. "That's really good!"

"If you say so" was my only reply. He silently sat down next to me without asking.

"What are you doing?" I asked my voice still quiet, a slight heat comeing to my face.

"Sitting down, what else would I be doing?" he retorted.

"I mean why, why are you sitting down?" I corrected myself.

"I don't know" he told me, "maybe I just feel like it."

We sat in a silence. I tried to draw, but my eyes would dart over to look at Yuudai, distracting me. He was staring at the sky, eyes shining despite clouds blocking most of the light. Suddenly he looked at me and our eyes meet. My eyes widened in shock because my hair didn't block him from seeing their color. A heavy heat ran to my face and I ducked my head down, hoping he didn't see. Though I knew he had.

I stayed like that for a while, my head down, eyes trained on the grass that swayed in the light breeze. Neither of us moved.

Suddenly, Yuudai gets up quickly. I flinched a the sudden movement but didn't look up. I heard his fast footsteps run off in the direction of my house. I sighed quietly. 'Of course he left' I thought to myself stupidly.

For some reason, I had stupidly hoped he wouldn't hate my eyes. Even my mom disliked my eye color. I was always teased as a little kid for having purple eyes. My mom would pretend that she liked them, but I knew she didn't.

Purple was a weird color for eyes, unnatural.
