It was midnight and you were being walked home by a close friend. He said he didn't want you walking home alone and you agreed to let him walk with you. It was rare that you made friends with people this considerate. You got home so late because you lost track of time. You preferred being home earlier but your friends got a little carried away. It was fine though. It's not like you had anything to do.
As you reached your house you said your goodbyes and entered quietly. The living room light was dimmed. Your boyfriend was sitting silently on the couch. You walked closer to him. You stopped as you smelled your favorite meal coming from the kitchen. You looked back at your boyfriend and sat your purse down. "Hey, babe." You said as you leaned over placing a kiss on his cheek. He didn't respond. He didn't even acknowledge you.
You walked over to the light switch and turned it to the brightest setting. You noticed he was dressed a little formally compared to you. He even did his hair differently. The more you observed him, the more confused you became. The food, the clothes, his unresponsiveness.
You stepped back and gasped. "Jin, I'm so sorry I forgot." You immediately apologized. Today was the day that Jin promised to make dinner. He said that he wanted the day to be special. He wanted to spend the evening with you. Jin wanted you to dress nicely. You promised to meet him home at 5.
He stood up and walked past you. His brushed you and you stumbled to the side. "Jin, I'm sorry. Please." You tried grabbing his hand but he instantly pulled away. "Every time I mentioned what would happen you said that you'd be here on time. You promised." Jin turned around to face you. You didn't want to believe what he said but it was true. "It slipped my mind." You tried to reason with him. You covered your face feeling idiotic. How could you forget about tonight? This boy was always there for you. He did everything to make you his.
"All of the anniversaries, and sleepless nights where I had to comfort you didn't slip my mind. Everything that was important to you was important to me." His voice got shakier as he spoke. This was the last thing you wanted. You never saw him like this. Your heart sank as he talked. You realized that he cherished time with you more than anything. That's why he was so upset. He just wanted you.
"Sometimes I wish.... never mind." He said while walking to the bedroom. "You wish what?" You said storming after him. "Just leave me alone." He said as he moved away from you. He plopped down on the bed. "What do you wish?" You asked persistently. "I wish that I could fall out of love with you." He mumbled and dropped his head in shame. Your eyes watered and you backed away from him.
"It's like the more I want you, the more you slip away." He looked up at you. You held eye contact for a while. "I promise. I'll take your feelings into account." You crashed into him. "Don't leave me." You said has he held you. You were now on the bed. He held you between his legs in a tight hug. You moved back so that you could see his face. His watery eyes watched as your hands moved closer to his face. Your thumb grazed his bottom lip before you kissed him. Jin pecked your cheek and held you close to him again. He ran his hand through your hair. "Regardless of how mad I get I can't stay that way." He whispered. He calmed you down. The way he managed to make you feel could be matched by no other. That's why you promised you'd be better, you couldn't lose him.
