Dawn

Dawn. My favourite time of day. I must have spent half an hour at least staring out the rain-kissed window at the downpour. My sister says I'm a pluviophile, I'm inclined to agree. The rain comforts me. It's a cleansing. As if it's washing away the darkness. The rain on Terra is so much more beautiful than in Rydre. Rydre rain is rare and only for short periods of time. Rydren vegetation only needs water once a year, so rain comes once annuallly except for special cases. I watched the droplets race each other down the windows before joining together. Water is so life-like, to the extent that I believe a part of it is actually alive.

My mind was torn from thought by the shattering of a ceramic bowl. "Amber?! Melissa?! Petunia?! You guys okay?!" I screamed, rushing to the kitchen. As usual I was overly worried. Petunia, our tabby cat, had knocked over Amber bowl of a nearly depleted oatmeal after being refused a cuddle because Amber was eating. Petunia was funny that way, but she was our beautiful feline princess. Melissa sleepily walked into the kitchen, her long black hair in a bundle of mess and knots, but yet she still was as beautiful as ever. Her bright brown eyes shine sweetly. She yawned rather loudly but gracefully at the same time. "What's for breakfast...?" she asked, with slightly mumbled speech. "Ceramic bowl shards," said Amber sarcastically. "Courtesy of Petunia," I added. "My favourite," she mumbles. Amber gets up and gets a bottle of ice cold water out of the fridge. "Amber, no, no, no!" I pleaded. Amber opened the bottle and poured the water into a glass. "Oh, I thought you were going to throw it at Lissy to-" I began before she took the glass and the next second Melissa's head was drenched in ice cold water. "There we go. You asked me to make sure you wake up. You have that job interview today, in an hour. Get ready," Amber said. Instead of the appalled expression I expected Lissy to have, she smiled with gratitude. I was dumbfounded. Such an act would usually anger Lissy to the her maximum point of rage. She calmly walked to her room with her hair dripping water upon the tile floor. She stopped in the middle of the passageway and with a devious grin simply stated: "I will get you back." Proceeding into her room, she closed the door and called out to me. "Tarke!" she shouted. "I don't want you peeking, okay?" she said jokingly with a cheeky laugh. Amber told me my face went blood red and my eyes opened wide with alarm. "You know I'm not that kind of guy!" I yelled back. I had no intention on 'peeking'. Amber and Lissy say I'm a gentleman, but I think I'm just being decent and respectful. "Just kidding, honey. Maybe I pulled your leg a bit too hard there," she chuckled.

"What's this job interview she's going to?" I asked Amber. "She didn't tell you?" "Nope." "Sorry honey, I meant to!" she shouted. "It's just a simple night security guard job for Tuesdays and Thursdays. Before you worry, just remember Melissa is also an Ordra, so she can easily beat down any Terran. Her eagle talons are no match for Terran criminals." I should explain, Melissa is an Eagle Ordra. While I'm at it, I should also mention that Amber is a Winter Ordra, bearing wings of snow and pure white flowing hair (which is a light brown in her Terran forme). She is able to manipulate and create the cold at will. Ordrae have many different and unique abilities, which makes for fascinating research among the Ordrae Librarians. New abilities are constantly being discovered and documented. We are truly blessed with such gifts. Although it must be said that Lissy and I are not just shapeshifters. A key difference between Terrans and Ordrae are that Ordrae are able to control certain aura-based energies. Amber's focuses on the aura of the Winter. Lissy's on an aura of wings and talons of the Eagle. Mine is an aura of dragons, but specifically a Highland Wood Dragon (from Inore), meaning my aura includes many plant-based abilities but also wind-based aura energies. This may seem strange, because both are considered two of the purest aura abilities that there are, along with water and snow. The reason this may not make sense is because I have Kodra blood in me. The Kodra thrive on chaos, which is considered an impurity in Draeor culture. Perhaps you're wondering how I have Kodra blood in me. Well, I was not born with it, but during the Last Cluster War, I engaged with a vampiric Kodra and during the fight, our blood mixed. You make think this wouldn't be uncommon, but Ordra don't bleed easily unless in Terran forme. The Kings of Rydre decided I was a possible threat of chaos and banished me. It's a necessary precaution. Amber joined me in banishment. Our parents were forced to stay. Lissy and I have known each other for decades but only recently have we acted upon our love for one another and formed a relationship. Another point in must explain, Draeor live much longer than Terrans. In Terran forme I am 17 years old, but in reality I'm 122. That's young for an Ordra though.

Lissy returned from her room, dressed in a casual-formal manner. "I'm off! Bye Amber and Petunia! Bye honey, I love you," she said as she kissed me. "I love you too," i replied lovingly. "Get a room you two!" joked Amber. Lissy walked out the door on her way to her interview. "I best be going as well," I stated. "To where?" "The library." "Since when do you go to the public library?" "No, Amber, I meant the library underneath the house in our basement! My word, you do have the blondest of moments sometimes. No offense to blondes, as hair colour does not affect intelligence. I want to do more research of Auras." "Oh...my bad. Enjoy! I love you, little bro." "I love you too, sis." And with the end of the exchange of words I made my way towards the basement.
