Justine was indeed attractive. Model material, to be exact. Her tall frame still managed to have curves, all of which were naturally dipped in ebony. When Normani first saw her, via Instagram, she swooned.
So it was no surprise that she tracked down Justine on her other social media profiles. They ended up interacting on Tumblr, where they bonded over a love for R&B, being dark-skinned girls, being the same age, and having dreams of superstardom.
They met in person a few months ago, but didn't get to see each other often due to their busy schedules. This explained why Normani was looking forward to meeting up again.
But she couldn't help but feel guilty as she walked into the lounge, where she was due to meet Justine. The spot was very colorful, although the furniture was white and futuristic. Despite its exciting appearance, Normani was thinking about Camila, her beautiful girlfriend who had all but admitted she was insecure about another girl.
"Normani," a voice called, "there you are."
Normani's brown eyes lifted to see Justine, who flashed her pearly white smile. Normani plastered on her own white smile and allowed Justine to take her hand and lead the way.
A slender white brunette sat at the booth Justine had taken Normani to.
"Normani, right?" the brunette asked, moving her eyes away from her phone. "Justine's told me so much about you."
"This is Kendall," Justine introduced as everyone got situated.
Normani smiled and recognized the girl in some of Justine's photos. Her voice was deeper than Normani had expected but it didn't take away from her cuteness. Apparently, Kendall was helping Justine pursue a modeling career. This was what Normani had learned from her conversation with the other two girls.
"Why do you seem so quiet, hun?" Justine asked Normani when their food arrived.
Normani began to poke into her linguini. "I'm sorry about that. I didn't know I was coming off that way."
"It's okay. Is something wrong?"
"Just thinking about my girlfriend," Normani confessed with a small pout.
"So she is your girlfriend?" Kendall joined the conversation, to which Normani nodded and said "yup," popping the P. "She's hot," she added.
"Behave," Justine told Kendall with a smirk.
"Wait, how do you know her?" Normani asked.
"I kind of snooped on your Insta and saw her. You're a totally cute couple," Kendall said.
"Yeah, we are. Thank you," Normani said with a genuine smile.
"Camila, right?" Justine said before taking a sip of her drink.
"How did you meet?" Kendall wanted to know.
Normani thought back to one of the moments that would forever change her life.
Flashback:
Normani had never attended a songwriting class before, but she was all for it, convinced that it would help take her career to the next level. She looked around the classroom and sat next to a girl with long dark hair, who looked Latina at first glance.
Normani started to wonder if she had arrived late because this girl was writing an essay.
"Um, the session starts at 2, right?" Normani said, just loud enough for the brunette to hear her. Her phone showed it was 10 to 2.
"Yeah," the girl confirmed with a definitive nod. "Why?" A small smile played on her lips as she looked at Normani.
"I was about to say. It's none of my business, but I see you're writing a lot over there," Normani replied, setting her purse to the side of her own desk.
"You're peeking at my work?" Camila asked, crinkling her eyebrows, enough to make her classmate feel a bit awkward. Then a warm breathy laugh followed. "I'm just kidding. In all seriousness, I love to write. That alone is enough for me to be taking this class."
"Do you want to sing, too, or is-"
Camila gave a scoff. "Do I? Singing is my life."
"Mine, too!" Normani grinned.
Both girls wore bright smiles and continued talking until they couldn't anymore because the lecturer had arrived.
"One of our assignments was to write a song about someone and then we had to let our partner critique it," Normani recalled about a project for a class that came later on, to an interested Justine and Kendall. "I didn't care that Camila was my partner, I wanted her to know it was about her."
Camila had blushed as soon as she saw the first word of the first verse that belonged in Normani's song. It was "'Mila."
"Mani, this is awesome...just awesome....but who is this about?" she asked, licking her lips nervously.
"Who do you think it's about?" Normani asked her, visibly calm and collected.
Camila's blush deepened and she tried to hide a smile.
"How many Mila's do you know?" she asked, chewing on her lower lip.
"Just one, and she's looking at me right now," Normani said with a smirk upon her full lips.
Normani was engulfed in warmth as she trailed down memory lane. Suddenly, she couldn't wait to come home and be with her 'Mila. And judging by how Justine and Kendall were becoming handsy on each other, she realized she could have brought her girlfriend with her.
"Okay, I feel like a third wheel," Normani said, feeling confused about the closeness between the other two. This was the first she had seen and heard of Justine exhibiting this side of herself.
Normani decided to text Camila and right as she began to type, she received an incoming text from Camila. Normani smiled.
But her smile dropped when she read the text.
