Chapter Twenty Three

The soft sounds of an instrument being played rang out throughout the whole house. It wasn’t loud, but hung underneath everything else like a murmur between lovers. It was the sound of the strings on a guitar being strummed. I sat in my makeshift room, getting everything together for a job when the melody turned into something I hadn’t heard before.

Shaun and Andy, even Bradie sometimes, played the guitar at any point during the day so the sound of instruments going was no longer off putting or surprising but after a couple of weeks all the songs started to get repeated and I knew what I was listening to before the lyrics joined in. This was something I hadn’t heard before. My first instinct said it was Shaun making a new song, which the band hadn’t done in a while but then I remembered he was out with Lissa.

I had no idea where Bradie was, he just wasn’t in the house. That left Andy and I alone in a way that I have never quite been aware of before. Sure, he and I have been in the house together when the rest of them were out but things had changed since then and as much as I tried to concentrate on getting a new job, it pressed in the back of my mind. Ever since that first kiss there had been something else always playing in the back of my mind. I woke up, sweating from the dreams of Andy’s hands running down my body. My breath wavered as I tried to push it all to the back of my mind again. The song was still going, it was beautiful.

I stood up slowly, no longer wanting to stay in this room. Curiosity killed the cat but I didn’t care. I stepped lightly; my bare feet touching the soft carpet for only a split second each step. I had left the door open and step through it, glad I hadn’t shut it. I went down the hall, shivering slightly in my shorts and sleeveless top. It had been so warm in the spare room under the sun, I couldn’t help myself but let as much skin soaked up the heat.

The hall was the coldest part of the house. Andy’s room was the furthest away from the rest of the house, so I was going to be in here for a little bit. I should have grabbed my Ugg boots, at least. I walked a little faster; making it to Andy’s half closed door freezing. I grabbed hold of the door frame like it was only thing keeping me up. The tune was clearer down this end of the hall, something repetitive with soft lyrics. I listened to the word as I placed one hand on the door. I begun to push it open but stop suddenly when the ‘f’ word was slipped into the mix of the words. I hadn’t expected it; the song was so soft, almost calming but it only stopped me for a second.

As he went into the chorus it got harsher but I was ready for anything this time. With the door fully open, I stood in the frame looking at Andy’s back as he playing the bass. I stood watching him, leaning against the frame, resting my head against it. I couldn’t help but smile. He sung word after word without a pause or waver, his voice went with this song. Why had I never heard this one before?

His head shot up suddenly and I got off the doorframe. I stood up straight, feeling like I had done something wrong. Andy looked over his shoulder, an almost hard look on his face. It soften at the sight of me before he smiled, getting up from his chair in the middle of the room. Holding onto the neck of the guitar he took a couple of steps to get to me and wrapped his other around me in as much of a hug and he could manage.

His hair wasn’t done, flat at the back, just laying the way hair was meant to. His fringe sat across his face as it did when he did do his hair which made me wonder what he actually did to it when he was getting ready for a show. He blue eyes held a softness that I hadn’t seen before, ever. There was always confidence, he carried that around like a guard. There was the lustful look that he had when I normally looked into his eyes but this was something else.

“Kiss me, Andy Clemmensen,” I let my finger tips play with the small round buttons of his shirt, “Kiss me” I whispered only inches away from his face.
