She turned to her side, sobbing. What was happening to her? Did she completely lose her mind? If she had developed this ability, she didn't want it anymore. She had never wanted it. She wept for a moment before her sobs subside. She took several deep breaths, thinking about what Peggy had requested. If she had another dream, that meant someone else had to die. Could she get close to the man in black? She really wasn't anxious to know the answer.
She climbed out of bed to get into the bathroom. She splashed her face with cold water, hoping to eliminate the signs of poor sleep and tears. She waited a moment before going down. The damage was still visible, but she would have to accept it.
Joelle barely ate dinner. No one could blame her. She spent time with her family before leaving to join her friends. In the distance, thunder rumbled, announcing a thunderstorm. She arrived at Christine's few minutes later. DJ and Marco were already in the basement with Simon. Only Laurie was missing. Christine went down with a huge box she placed near the sofa.
"Is the box full?" Joelle asked.
"More or less," Christine said, pushing her hair behind her ear. "I don't know how her parents have been able to gather some things."
"Lots of courage," DJ sighed, placing his chin on his clasped hands.
Laurie got down the stairs, apologizing for being late. Seeing her face, her friends knew she had been crying. Nobody was really in a hurry by what they were about to do. Christine held out a box of tissues while the others settled everywhere around the coffee table. Simon put the box on it. A heavy silence hung over the group of friends.
"I wonder if we are really ready to do it," Marco said, wiping his cheek with the back of his hand.
"No one can be ready," Laurie said.
"If her parents have done it," Joelle said, kneeling near the coffee table.
Her friends approved with a simple head movement. Christine closed her eyes, took a deep breath and approached the box. She picked up a small cardboard container. She opened it and burst into tears. Simon took it from her trembling hand. He frowned. He didn't really understand. DJ beckoned to him to give him the container. He looked inside and smiled.
"What is it?" Marco asked.
"She... she kept tickets..."
"What kind of tickers?" Joelle added, frowning.
Laurie reached out and DJ handed her the little box. She also began to sob, rummaging among many tickets.
"Activities, shows, movies... She... she kept everything..."
Face flooding with tears, she took one and smiled.
"Our ski weekend last year," she said.
"I remember that very well," Christine said, smiling too.
"It was a great weekend," Marco said.
"That wasn't the time you broke your leg?" DJ asked Simon.
The latter scowled slightly nodding. He crossed his arms, replying that it was because of Samuel that he had this stupid accident.
"You shouldn't follow him on the expert tracks, if I remember correctly," Marco said, laughing.
"I'm convinced that no one dared to force you to go," Laurie laughed.
They laughed for a short time before being enveloped again in silence. Laurie continued to delve into the little box and began to sob.
"Their first date at the movie."
