🌓 The Man 🌗

"You shouldn't be here," he spoke in a low hushed voice, his head shaking as he stared down into the girl's eyes. "They don't like the presence of other human beings. You need to leave now. Before they know you're here," he said firmly. He then turned and walked over towards the front door, pointing at it with his right hand, "Now!"

The lady stared at him while responding in a shaky voice, "The door is stuck. It won't open."

The man's body stiffened as he dropped his hand to his side. "They already know you're here," he mumbled sadly. He then turned and disappeared into another doorway.

"Wait!" the lady screamed. She took a step in the direction he had gone, hoping to get some answers from him. She was halfway across the room when the same banging noise started up again, but this time it was followed with dark laughter. Fear enveloped her, freezing her in her spot. "What do you want!" she cried, eyes running thoroughly over the room in search for whatever was responsible for the menacing laugh. Her eyes came to a stop on the man. He stood in the doorway, arms crossed and eyes sad.

"You shouldn't have come here. Now they won't let you leave." His voice had no emotion in it, as if he had repeated the same thing multiple times and it had now lost all meaning. She opened her mouth to respond, but her words were replaced by a scream. Without warning one of the books had suddenly flew across the room and slammed into the opposite wall. Her head quickly snapped in its direction just as the man began to speak again, repeating something he had already said. "You shouldn't be here. They don't like the presence of other human beings." This time his words were greeted by chilling, disembodied, voices.

"What do you mean?"

"We love company."

"It's been lonely here."

Tears began to flow from the lady's eyes as she stood shaking with fear. The voices began to laugh in a dark manner, only a few words being completely audible.

"She's scared."

"What a child."

It was then when a pair of dark red eyes suddenly appeared from beyond the black abyss in the corner of the room. The lady stared at them, watching as they started to move closer. Terrified out of her mind, she began to take large steps back without taking her eyes off the two red orbs across from her. She watched in horror as a dark figure slowly started to emerge from the shadows, it's red eyes staring directly up at her. A bloodcurdling scream erupted from her as soon as the creature came into view. It was crawling on all fours with its head twisted backwards and some sort of blackish saliva substance dripping from its mouth.

She felt her back hit a wall and all she could do was stare at the horrifying creature making its way towards her. "Come this way," the man's voice suddenly whispered in her ear. Tearing her eyes from the monster, she looked toward the source of the voice. He stood at her side, pointing towards the doorway beside him.

Without thinking twice, she stepped through and into another room. It was smaller than the last one and more moonlight seeped in creating a lighter atmosphere. A small bed sat in the center, the blankets torn and the pillow brown from old stains. Beside the bed was a dresser. Various assortments of clothes hung from its open drawers and cluttered the ground. A small mirror hung on the wall, the corner of it shattered and pieces of glass lying below it on the floor.

She quickly darted to the far wall, pressing her back against it and wrapping her arms tightly around her body. "This isn't real," she began to whisper, "It's all a dream. None of it is actually happening." But her words only filled the silence, doing nothing to comfort her.

The man walked into the room moments later, looking in her direction before turning towards the doorway he had just entered through. He started to speak, directing his words to no one in particular, "You don't have to do this. Please just let her go, she doesn't deserve to die. She hasn't done anything wro-" His words were cut short then a dark figure leaped out from the doorway and wrapped it's hand around his throat. A twisted smile appeared on it's face as it dug its claws into the back of his neck.

The lady watched, eyes wide and unable to move, as the creature brought its mouth to the man's ear and began to speak. "She is a sinner. They all are sinners, They all deserve to die."

The man fearlessly looking into the creature's eyes while choking out a few words in response, "There is forgiveness."

The creature threw back its head, howling angrily at the man, "There is no forgiveness from us, Alex. You should know that by now." With those words it pulled him through the doorway and out of the room. It was then silent; the only sound came from the young lady's heavy breathing. She stared at the spot where the man named Alex had disappeared, unable to move in fear that the creature would come back and take her.

All of a sudden hands began to protrude from the wall behind her, grabbing onto her arms and legs. She let out a cry of terror as one of the hands wrapped itself around her arm, piercing her skin and drawing blood. Laughter started to echo through the room as she pulled away from the wall and out of their reach. Numerous pairs of eyes began to appear throughout shadows, and the laughter started to turn into a menacing snickers. Dark black figures began to seep from the walls and advance towards her. Their mouths ajar and the same backlash saliva like substance dripped out them, landing on the floor and creating large black puddles. They were repeating one word in a low chorus.

"Sinner."

The black mass forced the lady back, directing her towards a small closet in the corner of the bedroom. She could feel the fear eating her alive as she stared into their dead eyes. They kept coming closer with disturbing smiles plastered on their faces. She eventually felt her back hit the wall and her hand searched for the door hand to the closet while her eyes watched the black figures that surrounded her. Once her hand landed on the cool metal handle, she pulled it open. A large object fell to the floor with a thud the moment she opened the door. The black mass behind her began to laugh hysterically as she let out a scream of utter horror. Lying at the ground at her feet with eyes wide and three slash marks in his throat was Alex.
