🌒 The Truth 🌘

The lady stepped back while looking down into Alex's lifeless brown eyes. Fighting the urge to throw up on the wooden floor, she turned around to the open space of the room. The black mass had disappeared and been replaced with one person, Alex. She stared at him, shaking her head in denial. "You're dead," she choked out while looking from Alex to the body at her side.

He looked at her with sad eyes. "That I am," he whispered calmly before slowly beginning to walk towards her.

"Don't come near me!" she screamed while shaking her head and taking a step back. He stopped walking just as the voices began to echo through the room once more.

"She doesn't like you."

"You're a monster."

"Because of what you did."

The lady watched as Alex screamed at the air, "I'm sorry." He then sank to the ground with his head in his hands, as if he wanted to cry but couldn't. There was silence for a long moment before Alex slowly looked up towards the lady. "I'm sorry," he repeated sadly, his brown eyes meeting hers.

She decided to play along, hoping that just maybe all they had wanted was to share Alex's story. "What are you sorry for?" she asked, attempting to control her voice but failing as her question came out shaky. The voices immediately started up again, bouncing off the walls of the room.

"Go ahead."

"Tell her, Alex"

"Tell her what you did."

Alex looked up at her, his eyes glossy but no tears falling from them. "I brought her back to life," he whispered.

She waited for him to continue but he never did. "Who?" she asked awkwardly. Her whole body was screaming at her to run but she knew that whatever was keeping her here wasn't going to just let her go.

"The girl I loved," Alex sighed, his eyes drifting towards the wall behind her. "But it wasn't her anymore. She had become a monster. A soulless abomination. She was no longer the girl I loved, I knew that for sure. Some days she would stare at me with dark eyes, unmoving in the corner of our room. I feared she would kill me so I sent her back." The next few words had gotten lodged in his throat but he managed to choke them out, "I killed her." The lady's eyes softened at his words, and she began to feel bad for the heartbroken boy. He then started to speak again, looking up towards her as he said the words. "What I didn't know was that she was the only thing protecting this world from the next."

"Wh- what do you mean?" she choked out, his words sparking new forms of fear inside of her.

"Once I had killed her again it left the doorway open. The doorway to hell." His statement promptly sparked the voices once more causing them to erupt into a chorus of responses.

"We had been trapped."

"But now we are free"

"He freed us."

Alex slowly stood back up and shook his head. "I didn't free you," he said with disgust, "You are still trapped within the walls of this house." He then looked back at the young lady that stood on the other side of the room. "I'm sorry for everything. It's my fault they are here, my fault this house is so dangerous."

She took a step towards him, "I don't blame you for being in love, Alex. Love can make us blind sometimes."

A loud screech suddenly filled the room and one word followed it, "Enough!" A human like creature then began to materialize in the middle of the room. It stood facing Alex, looking at him with disgust. "You don't deserve to be forgiven," it began to bellow as it seemingly floated towards him. "And now you get to spend the rest of eternity with us. Forever suffering for your sins." It then stuck its arm out, inserting its hand into Alex's chest. He let out a cry of pain as the demon began to pull, a sinister smile on its face. Once it decided he had had enough it pulled back, letting him fall to the ground in a coughing fit.

The demon then proceeded to turned toward the lady, tilting its head playfully at her. "Now what should we do with you?" it hissed as it began to float towards her. Voices erupted throughout the room at the demon's question.

"Kill her."

"Make her join us."

"We need new play things."

The demon laughed hysterically as it came to a stop a few feet in front of her. She wanted to run but was unable to move. All she could do was stare into its red eyes as it decided her fate. She could hear Alex in the back begging it to let her go but his words were cut short when a cluster of hands reached through the floorboards and pulled him under. The last thing she heard from him was his screams of pain and terror.

The demon in front of her smiled before whispering, "He can be such a pain at times." It then brought its claw shaped hand up and studied it for a second. "I hope you won't be the same." With those words, it ran its claws across her throat creating three deep slashes.

Her eyes opened wide as blood began to pour profusely from the gaping wounds. Sinking to the ground, she placed her hand over neck. She fought for air, desperately trying to get any source of oxygen, but the wounds were too deep. She fell to her back, gasping and coughing but the blood had already begun to pool in her mouth and run down the side of her face. She felt her mind began to drift away, and her vision started to get blurry. All she could do was stare up at the ceiling while she descending into darkness.

It was silent, the darkness. It felt calming but, unfortunately, it didn't last long. The lady began to feel herself drift back, as if an unseen force was pulling her back to the place she didn't want to be. Her eyes flew open and she found herself in the old bedroom once more. She noticed Alex had returned and was looking down at something on the floor with despair. Slowly following his gaze, her eyes landed on her own unmoving body. Her body's brown eyes were still open and staring lifelessly at the ceiling as blood continued to pour from the three slashes on her throat. She was dead, trapped forever within the walls of the house to be a play toy for the demons that were free to enter and exit. She felt sick to her stomach, but nothing frightened her more than the three chilling words that were whispered into her ear. "Welcome to hell."
