Chapter 23 - He what

Laura's P.O.V.

Cassidy looks like she was crying all night. Did I do that? Riker hugs her tightly.

When I get to my first class I see Ross talking to his friends. I've never met them. They're to cool for me.

"Okay class, we will be starting our unit 2 projects today. I've decided you will work in pairs." Our teacher Mr. Cooper announces.

"Can we pick our partner?" Some boy asks.

Mr. Cooper drops dead laughing. I take that as a no.

Work makes me stress. Partner work makes me want to crawl into a hole.

I hope I get Ross or someone decent.

"Ross and Lindy." Mr. Cooper has smashed my inner thoughts.

"Laura and Scott." Scott is one of the cool guys I was talking about earlier.

I hear the intercom click on.

'Please excuse the interruption, we are sorry to announce the death of Jake Shaffer. He died last night in a car accident. A funeral will be held at the Moon Valley church tomorrow night. School is cancelled Wednesday in Memorial of Jake Shaffer.

I'm frozen. I don't know what to feel. He was my enemy, but before that we were friends. Jake is dead? He can't be. He's here one minute gone the next. All the walls start closing around me. My eyes water. I can't breath.

I need to leave. I need to leave now!

I grab my bag and run to the restroom locking the door behind me.

I start hyperventilating. The last thing he told me was that I'm a slut. He was right about me.

I call the number I thought I almost forgot about.

"Valerie?" I hesitated.

"I need you and Conner to pick me up." I tell my friends. I missed them so damn much. How have I not called them any sooner?
