Cameron's POV
How can I tell her I like her... as more than a friend? I'm not even sure that she likes me back, but by the pictures on her phone, I'm starting to second guess myself.
"Scarlet...?" I ask after a long pause. She looks down at my hand that has managed to find its' way onto hers.
"What's up?" She says. By this time, we have just arrived in the school parking lot. I stop the car in the parking spot and turn it off.
"Some things are hard for me to confess. Out loud, that is." I manage to say. I now notice that I need to blurt out my feelings in less than five minutes, because the bell is about to ring soon. That's when Scarlet cuts me off.
"Listen, I don't want you to say anything you arn't ready for yet." She says, letting go of my hand.
"I'll see you later, Cam." Scarlet says, opening the car door. With one swift movement, she is gone. I look down at my phone and see I now have two minutes before class starts. I just wanted more time...

Later that day...
My mom had sent me outside to open the pool, since it was late May, and my father surly wasn't getting around to it any time soon. I put on bright blue checkered swim trunks and put my t-shirt to the lawn chair, next to me.
The pool cover was an utter mess! There were literally hundreds of dead bugs on the top, and some were starting to grow under the water, which made it all much more fun! I carefully pulled the cover off and threw it to the side of the pool, watching the gunk drain off. I took the bottle of chemicals and generously poured it in the green water. That's when I noticed I needed the skimmer, which was in the shed.
I pryed open the wooden shed door, and rummaged around for the skimmer pole and head. I also had found the radio that we put out by the deck. I brought both things to the deck, and plugged in the radio to the power cord. The first song that was on was, "Ever Ever After", by Carrie Underwood.
"Uh... no." I said to myself, out loud. I suddenly felt the hairs stand up on the back of my neck as I was about to change the station, when I heard a familiar voice.
"I... like that song," was what I heard coming from behind me. I hesitated for a moment before turning around.
"Hi Scarlet." I say. I could tell that she was staring at my bare chest. I then realized that she had been crying. The make up was running down her pink cheeks.
"What's the matter? Did something happen?" I ask, walking toward her. She suddenly collapses to the ground, curling up to a little ball, shaking uncontrollably. I ran up to her, and fell beside her, taking her in my arms, so she felt comforted.
In the most quiet whisper, almost breathy, but a still thin voice said, "Cass died..."
