The Letter

He was done for, he knew it. Now the assassin is going to kill him right here, right now. He prepared for any sudden movements.

Garett wasn't such a heavy sleeper after all.

Instead of a blow to his head or abdomen, he only received a pat on his shoulder.

"Ya didn't kill me, doesn't give me a reason to kill ya," He only gave Gerhard a bored look as he continued staring at him.

"Why?"

Damnit, he knew he would ask that question anytime. The question, that he found asking himself as well sometimes.

"Because," Gerhard swallowed the lump in his throat before continuing, "You're my Freund, I cannot afford.." Scheiße, now he's showing his weak side, he totally cannot afford that.

He stood straight again to look defiantly back into Garett's eyes "I can't kill you because you are my friend, Garett, you may be a shitty Assassin, but I still see you as a friend I knew before the war," He had done quite a well job of not quivering his voice when he said that.

"Well, you got your answer, now what?" He found himself back to his snarky self.

Garett only brought up an opened letter, the letter had the seals of the British army. Gerhard saw the seals and froze unintentionally.

What is happening? First, Garett was talking weird, now this letter from the British army addressing the Americans, but it was a really rare sight for a letter to be sent across enemies like that!

Garett opened his mouth, "It seems there's a prisoner exchange goin' on between us, we and them Redcoats, and they would want all their prisoners back, which includes ya, ya go back to 'em, we get back our own men,"

Oh, prisoner exchange. How typical.

Gerhard ought to be happy and somewhat excited about the news, he was going back to the army, back to his course he had planned out since he was a youth in the order, back to the way it was, how it was supposed to be. But yet, he seemed lost.

What's the purpose of doing this anymore? He was just fighting and for what? To serve the Empire, his order?

Sure, he swore an oath to the order, since the day his family got murdered in cold blood...

He had also sworn to kill him, this... assassin.

It was all so messed up. This time, he had to do something right for once.

"I'm glad, the British army benefits, and your army benefits, it's a double gain. I don't see what's wrong with going back,"

For the order. May he who understands guide him.
