Chapter Seventeen
Bad memories
"Hey mom." I greeted her sheepishly over the telephone, dreading the rant she was about to unleash on me,
"Oh hi, Kimmy, how are you?" she cooed and I frowned in confusion.
Was that it?
Was that all she was going to say?
I moved to the other side of the flippin' country and all I get is a "Oh hi, Kimmy, how are you?"! Well, that's just incredibly convenient and easy!
"I'm great, job's going great, Rob's doing awesome and B.C. is a really cool place.",
"B.C.? As in British Colombia?! On the complete opposite side of Canada? When did you move there?! Why did you move to British Colombia? Why didn't you tell me you moved to British Colombia?" she exclaimed hysterically and that was the initial reaction I was expecting.
"I sent you an e-mail explaining everything. Why don't you check your e-mails?" I retorted,
"I don't know how to work that damn machine, it's always beeping and clicking and things and I'm afraid it'll blow up one of these days." she admitted and I sighed, it's times like these where I wonder if I'm adopted.
"It's won't explode, mom. I've been here for almost a month now, how have you not noticed that?" I asked, in disbelief that I was really that neglected back home, even by my own mother.
"Don't flip this on me, Missy! I have been busy." she said defensively and I scoffed,
"With what? Bingo?" I guessed and she fake laughed,
"I'm not that old, and I would have liked a little warning before you just got up and left like you did!" she scolded me and I groaned in frustration.
"You did get a warning! It's in the detonating time bomb in the study-Run, mama, get out of the house, the computer is over heating slightly, she's gonna blow!" I mocked her fear of the computer,
"Ha, ha, very funny. Well, I hope you're having a fun time wherever you are!" she exclaimed sarcastically and I sighed.
"I'm sorry, mom." I apologized.
"Oh, I'm sorry too, my little honey bunch of oat. I didn't mean to yell... Or be very uneducated in the technology department, it was just shocking you know. I miss having you around, but you're all grown up now, and I'm very proud of you. You'll come visit soon, right? Next holiday?" she asked and I smiled.
"Absolutely. I love you, mom." I said and there was a pause of silence, "Mom?" I asked and I heard a sniffle at the other end of the line,
"Oh, yeah, sorry, I love you too, baby doll." she sobbed and I sighed,
"Are you okay?" I asked she cleared her throat.
"Oh, I'm fine, okay, you take care of yourself, sweetie.",
"I will, mom. I'll talk to you soon, okay? Bye. Oh! And tell dad, I say hi and I miss and love him." I smiled and I was sure she was too, underneath all her tears.
"I will, bye bye, cutie." she said,
"Bye, mom." I replied and hung up. Well, glad that's over and done with.
