Chapter Twenty
I Quit
"Whoa, whoa, wait a minute! What do you mean you're quitting?" she asked me, getting up quickly and following me into the house.
"I mean I'm QUITTING. There's no way I'm staying at that job, I am absolutely not working for that man... whore! Anymore!" I declared and Robin placed a hand on my shoulder, holding me back, trying to make me stop from going upstairs.
"Think about what you're saying, Kim. Are you going to go up there, quit, and still have to live here with him awkwardly? That's not really the best plan you've ever come up with." she said honestly and I paused.
"...Yeah, I'm going to quit." I grinned and ran up the stairs, "It's so liberating! Woo! Yeah! I'm going to quit!" I cheered and Robin followed.
"Kim, wait does this mean you're moving back to Ontario?" she interrogated me and I stopped on the stairs, pondering the thought.
"No, I like it here in BC... but not working for Jacob Roland. Because I quit! Ha! Can you imagine it? Me. Kimberly Maine. Quitting a job. I've never quit anything before, only been promoted and such. This is amazing, can't you just see it now?" I grinned as I continued my march up the stairs.
"Yeah, I believe I'm gonna see it real soon, Kim." she muttered and I stopped again.
"Will you quit being such a sack of worry juice?" I asked and she cringed a little,
"That sounds gross." she whispered and I shrugged.
"Yeah, a little, but that's not the point! You're my best friend, be supportive." I said softly and she sighed.
"All right, fine. I just think you're making a rash decision." she continued to try to convince me and I just kept on climbing the stairs.
"That doesn't really sound like support." I pointed out and she groaned,
"Okay, I get it, I'll stop now." she mumbled and I smiled.
"You know, after this, we should smoke marijuana! I've never done that before either." I suggested to Rob and she clapped her hands together.
"Oh yeah, sure! And maybe after that we can snort cocaine off a stripper's a*s and contract aids from a monkey!" she exclaimed sarcastically and I scoffed.
"Okay, let's not get carried away... But I'm serious about the weed thing." I whispered when we reached his bedroom door and Rob was staring at me blankly, bemused.
"You know what, why don't we just stick to quitting for today, okay bud?" she asked and I sighed.
"Yeah, okay, fine." I raised my hand and knocked and Rob hid around the corner to eavesdrop.
As soon as opened the door, answering only in his boxers, I dropped the bomb,
"I quit." I said quickly, and he frowned in confusion.
"What?" he asked softly and I nodded,
"You heard me. I quit. I quit and I'm moving out. You have my two weeks notice and I will search for a place to stay in the mean time." I stated and he shook his head.
"What? Why are you doing this?" he asked and I pushed the door open and peered in. I saw my sister laying on his bed, naked and sleeping. I felt my fists clench. "Kimberly, I-I can explain..." he whispered and I frowned, shaking my head.
"You, don't need to explain anything... You son of a b*tch! I'll f***ing kill you I swear!" I screamed, swinging my fists wildly and hitting him as hard as I possibly could. It wasn't affecting him looked sad and Robin ran out from around the corner pulling me away. "You motherf***er! I hate you! I f***ing hate you, you stupid b*stard!" I yelled, flailing wildly in Rob's arms, trying to run up to hit him, but she held me back.
