Chapter 5
Run!Willow
I woke with a start.
Grant was kneeling next to me, his green eyes wide with surprise and concern.
Jay sat on the hospital bed, his eyes shining with an emotion I couldn't read.
"What time is it?" I asked
I was almost surprised at the question. After everything I had just learned, and excepted about the Riders.
I ask what the bloody time is?
Grant was incredulous, while Jay said
"About 2:30."
"Ugh."
I fell backwards onto the tile, and covered my eyes with my arm.
Images of the Rider's flashed in my mind. I could almost feel the wind in my hair, and the weather in my bones. A quote occurred to me from one of the many books I've read...
'One does not question miracles, or complain that they are not constructed perfectly to ones liking.'
The irony was almost too much.
I'd always wanted an adventure, but it never occurred to me it would
come like this.
Somehow, I smiled.
"Alright" I said "Sarver, Evans," I sat up, and looked at them both, Grant seemed curious, but his eyes shone, and he was smiling.
Jay was smirking, his eyes were sparkling as well. He seemed almost grateful that I was like this and not...something else.
I realized I hadn't felt this confident in years. This feeling was like nothing I'd ever felt before.
And I really, really liked it.
I stood up, and brushed the dust off my clothes and looked up.
"Let's go start our adventure, eh?"
Grant smiled, full and bright, and Jay smiled too, his eyes sparkling even more.
He jumped up from where he was sitting on the hospital bed and walked over to me.
"Willow. This choice will effect you for the rest of your life."
His face turned serious
"A man cannot live if he is not willing to die. Are you willing to die for us Willow? In keeping our secret?"
I looked at Jay and I felt my pupils dilate. I'd never seen him so passionate or serious about anything in his life. He always keeps a cool and collected attitude, showing this kind of passion...I really liked seeing it.
I turned to look towards Grant, he had been oddly silent throughout this whole ordeal, but his eyes showed it all. He was a Rider, and he felt the same way as Jay.
He gave me a small nod and a small encouraging smile.
I turned my face towards Jay. My heart was racing, my head pounding and I had never been so aware of my surroundings. My body was thrumming with energy and excitement.
"I do."
Jay smiled and the happiness behind it made me want to leap for joy.
"Then let's get the hell out of here!"
Grant yelled and he threw his fist in the air like some sort of movie character.
I laughed and put my fist to his.
"This is beyond tacky, and clique" I said, still laughing.
"Agreed," Jay said "but adventurers always are."
He put his fist on Grant's and mine, and we laughed together, for a moment.🚴
No sooner had we removed our fist's, we heard shouts, gun shots, and screaming.
I turned around, looking towards where to noise was coming from. I saw glimpses of black suits, and guns.
"We're here for the kids. The one with the broken arm, a girl, and another boy. Give them over to us, and nobody gets hurt!"
I froze, I joined the Riders not a minute ago (literally) and I was already being hunted by government goons.
"Shit." Jay mumbled
"G, you take the back, Willow and I got front. Meet us at 42nd street. Got it?"
Grant nodded, green eyes glowing darkly.
'He loves this' I thought 'they love this.'
Grant ran off down the left hall, towards the back emergency exit, and Jay watched him go.
More yelling, more gunshots.
"Fucking BG's, what the hell, it's 2 in the morning."
I had no clue what a BG was and told myself to ask later.
Jay grabbed my hand, and looked towards me.
"You trust me?"
I smirked, my heart was beating out of my chest, this was exactly what I was looking for.
"All depends on you."
We ran.
****We made it to the second hall before we hit trouble.
I began to turn around a corner and Jay froze, causing me to freeze to.
"Alex," called one of the BG's "you check the far left corridor, I'll keep civilians under lockdown on this side."
