After we were out of earshot of the detention hall, Kate and I burst out laughing. We head back towards our dorms, it is 19:00, and we already had dinner. So we decide to take a walk around the campus grounds with Seth before curfew. We meet up with him in front of the dorms and recount our experience in the chemistry lab earlier that day, telling him every detail from Mr. Chase's reaction to how I picked the lock. We start to walk down the paths that crisscross the campus in silence. We talk about how we can grow together through our mistakes. Because sometimes, mistakes are what bring us closer.
"What do you guys think the rest of high school will be like?" I ask curiously.
"Hard."
"Way to be blunt, Seth." I respond, rolling my eyes.
"I mean, I know when we came here we knew BPA was different. But I never pictured myself going to a school for spies..." My voice trails off.
"I think that what we learn here will prepare us for what's really out there." Seth says solemnly, gesturing past the high walls of our campus to the world beyond.
We walk in silence for several minutes, pondering what that simple sentence really means.
"The world can be like a trap, ready to trick us into falling in, and it's the training we get here that prepares us to avoid that." Kate says with certainty.
As we walk through the campus, I realize that everything here is a secret. No one knows about this school. The walls are whispering secrets; the trees are holding secrets of the things they have seen. This is the school no one knows about, and we are the students everyone underestimates.
Now,I am part of that legacy, and the secrets of Briar Preparatory Academy now live on in me. Right now I am starting to feel like I am a part of this school, and this legacy.
